Agree %100. With the character that Phil has been developed into he should have been right behind Tony in line to lay a beat down for that behavior. With all that has transpired between these two families this was the best idea they could come up with to start a war? I just don't get it. Maybe something will happen in the last two episodes to make sense of it fi we are lucky. I have a few other problems with last night too. Why the eff would a mob boss start carrying on to his crew about taking peyote? I mean they all drink pretty heavy sure, but mind altering drigs where they could say/do anything and have no idea wtf they are doing? Also, he admits this to Melfi and she all but ignores it. Gee....my depressed patient just lost a close relative (she doens't know he did it) ina horrible car crash that he was in is dropping acid....meh...no biggie...on to the next mother complex

1. Phil doesn't know that there was something said about his daughter. [/ QUOTE ] He doesn't? He's the head of that family now, I figure he was the one who would order that kind of a move against a rival boss. Phil calls the shots for NY, I can't see 2 guys below him just deciding on their own to go find Meadow Soprano in little Italy and threaten her without a guy like Phil, at the very least, being told about it before hand and afterward. |

In every interview I've ever seen Peter Bogdonovich is exactly that tedious. But he did eff the young Cybil Shepherd. [/ QUOTE ] I've heard some DVD commentary stuff he's done (I think for The Limey) and confirm bison's opinion. He's got stuff to say, but it's [censored] BORING. He's done a bunch of cool [censored] though. |

[/ QUOTE ] The phrase 'I could smell the Sambuca on his breath' seems to suggest otherwise. And again, if Phil ordered it, for him to hold out is only to be expected - Phil doesn't care about money, he's a true tyrant. He's wanted this war since the Tony Blundetto incident, and now he's finally the unequivocal boss of the family. |

They said the guy has a restaurant in Little Italy. He was drunk and the run-in appeared to be a coincidence. [/ QUOTE ] Little Carmine also spoke to Tony and then called Phil after and prior to them showing up with "hats in hand". So even if it was an off the cuff incident wouldn't Tony have mentioned this to Carmine and Carmine to Phil? [ QUOTE ] He's wanted this war since the Tony Blundetto incident, and now he's finally the unequivocal boss of the family. [/ QUOTE ] This, I can buy. |

[/ QUOTE ] Tony said to Carmine that he overreacted, so Carmine obviously knew and I think it was implied he told Phil (also - the guy who answered the door at Phil's house was with the guy when they ran into Meadow, and when Tony beat him down). From what we've seen of Phil, I don't think he would really care about the incident, considering what has happened to his family members. |

Sopranos Rewind: The Second Coming Posted by Alan Sepinwall May 21, 2007 12:29AM (Witness the way he hides from Tony and Little Carmine in the little turret of his suburban castle; he's a coward at heart .) [/ QUOTE ] Does anyone else not see this? Phil has never come across as cowardly to me. Petty, selfish, vindictive yes, but not cowardly. |

As a father, I have to say that I was extremely touched by the AJ/Tony/suicide scene. I give David Chase, Gandolfini & especially Robert Iler (who I've never been fond of) a tremendous amount of credit for pulling that off as well as they did.
Tony's realization that he needed to stop being angry and hold his child to comfort him was poignant and emotional for many viewers I'd imagine. Still, thinking about it now, the scene really was amazing..gives me chills to think about and I'm not one moved like that often. As many of you know, I've been critical of Chase's approach this season, but, I have to say, I think this episode was a classic..a masterpiece in the same class as Long Term Parking, Pussy's death, and the episode where Mikey Palmice got it from Paulie/Christopher. |
