we were on the verge of losing the franchise.

This is insulting to every city that actually lost a team. Moving to Hartford would have been an inconvenience, but nothing close to losing the franchise. Its an hour and half drive.

it's probably more of a psychological change. Foxboro is a Boston suburb and the Pats are a de facto Boston team. that would have changed had they moved to another city. had they moved to Hartford, the TV cameras wouldn't show the Boston skyline, the victory parades wouldn't have been in Boston...this is all little dumb stuff, but it matters. it wouldn't have been "our" team anymore. but yeah, it was much better than them moving to Las Vegas or something

Solid career, he's Bernie Kosar with a ring. No HOF though.

[/ QUOTE ]

Agree on no HOF, but he was a cut above Bernie Kosar.

[/ QUOTE ]

Meh, I disagree. Kosar played played some great games in the postseason. Bledsoe was aided by a vastly underrated defense that gave up 0 TD's in two afc playoff games in '96. The title game vs. Jax was 13-6 before a late defensive TD (the same Jax team that won 2 shootouts the previous 2 weeks vs. Buffalo & Denver). The following year in '97 they beat Miami 17-7 w/ a defensive TD, lost to Pittsburgh 7-6, in '94 they lost to Cleveland like 13-6, etc, etc. There's no getting around the fact that the guy sucked in big games.

Yes.

It's from the Snow Bowl in 1992, where the Cougs rolled the Huskies.

yeah and there's no getting around the fact that bledsoe threw for 20k more yards over 100 more TD's.

seriously, its insulting to bledsoe to be mentioned in the same sentence as kosar.

My Rhetoric teacher taught Bledsoe when she was a grad student (or first year after being a grad student, I forget). Apparently he informed her that he was going to miss some class because of having to travel for some big game. She said "What big game is that?" skeptically. Bledsoe then had to explain to her that he was the starting quarterback for the football team.

She had no idea the entire semester and said that he just acted like a normal good student.

SHe seemed to respect his character and I found that story pretty interesting.

i liked bledsoe as much as a dolphins fan could living in new england, he's just a likeable guy, but are there any hall of fame qb's that were replaced mid-season at every stop in their career?

he's got the stats, but passing numbers are inflated, like power numbers in baseball. bledsoe is like the (gary sheffield? juan gonzalez? chipper jones) of football, the numbers are there, but you really can't look back and think "geez, i'll never forget when he _______ (insert memorable moment)"

Let's not go overboard here... Kosar had a much better completion %, yards/attempt, and TD/INT ratio. Bledsoe was just productive longer and threw the ball 50 times a game.
