[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] Aren't they getting a new stadium within the near future? Huge back-loaded contract? I can see it happening. [/ QUOTE ] both the mets and yankees are getting a new stadium in 2009. the war between the two teams to have him as their opening day starter will probably get ridiculous if it gets that far [/ QUOTE ] I'd guess Arte Moreno will be there too. |

Santana denied SI's report yesterday:
[ QUOTE ] Johan Santana on Wednesday vehemently denied a Sports Illustrated report that he has broken off contract talks with the Twins, saying, "It doesn't make any sense." [/ QUOTE ] And a somewhat encouraging part: [ QUOTE ] Would he take a hometown discount? "I'd say yes, but it's not up to me," he said. "It depends on the length of that contract, too. It depends on how many years they're willing to offer." And how many years does he want? "I'm going to be honest with you," he said. "I would like to stay here forever. Now, how many years would they be willing to offer? I don't really know. Hopefully I could do lifetime. That would answer your question because that's what I would like to do." [/ QUOTE ] Story. |

[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] Johan, but MN needs to take care of him, hometown discounts only go so far [/ QUOTE ] Yeah, I feel it's very unlikely that Johan is going to accept a Brian Giles-esque hometown discount. It's pretty tough to give much of a break to the Twins when you're the best pitcher in the game. |

it usually is
but sometimes guys do take cheaper contracts to play where they like Teams like Oakland and the Twins are teams as I feel bad for (as a Yankee fan) When Mets, Redsox or Dodgers fans wanna talk to me about the Yankees payroll I laugh. If a Royals or Pirates fan wants to cry about it when they dont even try to win I laugh. But Oakland and Minny have somehow put together teams that consistantly have no payroll, but are stocked with good young talent. Those are the teams that should bitch about payroll more than anyone. |

[/ QUOTE ] Not to burst your bubble Twins fans but this is standard soon to be FA BS speak. [/ QUOTE ] Lol, I like your post for the simple fact that it doesn't take much for for us to know you're clueless. I don't think the Twins are going to get a steal on Johan. I do think they'll offer him close enough to fair market value that he'll stay here. Obviously that's what I want to see happen, but that's also what's tended to happen to Twins players with this type of attitude and desire to remain here- we're loyal to them and they're loyal to us. To say that this is clear FA BS is quite ridiculous. There was another part in the article talking about his desire to retire a Twin, etc. But again, what can you believe from these guys anymore? |
