The Muse. Best band out there by far. One of the most talented bands I've seen in a long time. By far the best 3-piece (although someone recently told me they picked up a road keyboardist). I have no idea why this band hasn't WTF-E'sploded all over the world. I've been a fan for 4 years or so, and when they've come to town it's gone from a club whose circuit breaker couldn't keep up with their gear, to stadiums... so they've gotten somewhat bigger. [/ QUOTE ] I love Muse (not The Muse FWIW). I didn't think their first album was great, but I've been a convert since 2001 when Origin came out in the UK. Very rarely do my musical tastes intersect with bands whose live shows display real vocal and instrumental virtuosity. Bellamy is not the greatest song-writer in the world, but as an arranger and performer he's at the top of the game. But Muse would probably be considered a critically-acclaimed band in England. Or at least acclaimed by the NME. |

Zevon would make my list too...but I think he got some critical acclaim....Lawyers Guns and Money....one of the best songs ever. Also check out the Hindu Love Gods, where Zevon is Vocalist w/ REM, minus Stipe. [/ QUOTE ] Warren Zevon actually got a fair bit of critical acclaim. He just never sold a ton of records after about 1980 or so. The same could be said for Graham Parker, pretty much. Anyhoo, we used to cover "Lawyers, Guns and Money" all the time when I was playing in Jealous Lover Targets. That song is pure brilliance. |

Most people couldnt name one song (except maybe sober because it got radio play)...I think they are more popular in this forum than in the country as a whole....thats why I put them on my list. |

agree 100% with muse, I just "found" these guys a couple weeks ago and was completely blown away. Their last 2 albums are just amazing, exactly the type of stuff I like. I don't know how I never heard of them until now.

I rarely listen to the radio because I can't stand most mainstream music, but for some reason I really like Fall Out Boy. Nothing original about them, it's just catchy music.

[/ QUOTE ] Several appearances atop the Billboard charts indicate that they do, in fact, appeal to the mainstream. |
