PSA: if you really enjoy sushi, try not to puke. I had some sushi back in jauuary, ended up throwing up from some bad oysters that I had a long with it, and now I cant eat sushi anymore.

also I would spend about $300, unless it was at Todai which we don't have here, and anyways I don't know if eating 1 piece of sushi from Todai is something I want to do. [/ QUOTE ] |

For the record, here is a sushi eating contest that we can all learn from: nigiri is better because otherwise we all look like we're bobbitizing a giant roll. [/ QUOTE ] LOL! That part with the wasabi was awesome! |

There will be factors that may hinder comparison, such as the amount of rice on nigiri. I know places that put a little amount, which I like. Many places, including every AYCE joints, mound huge packs of rice. So 10 pieces at one place will fill you up as much as 20 pieces at another, simply because you're eating that much more rice.
This is why I always try to eat sashimi or rolls. Just wanted to put that thought out there. |

punk,
Yeah, AYCE def screws you on the rice. That is the penalty you have to pay, though, if you decide to go the discount route. Still looking for some good feedback re: how to deal with rolls. I feel like there are three categories: Tuna roll (seaweed/tuna, tiny roll) - the sorta BS tiny little rolls Basic rolls - stuff like salmon/tuna/avocado/cucumber combos with rice on the outside Big rolls - rainbow rolls, spider rolls, etc. Don't want to get too complex w/ conversion ratios, though. |

Idea: competitors bring a small food scale with them to the sushi restaurant, and the winner is the person who eats the most by weight. Doesn't matter how you take it.

I'm in. There are decent all you can eat sushi places in socal - obviously not the best ever, but most cost efficient for something like this. Runs around $20 for all you can eat - less for lunch. [/ QUOTE ] are you still in SD, I will be on your team! |

A lot has to do with the location, so "pieces" could mean different things. I suggest that the next time there is a large contingent of contestants in Vegas, we settle this once and for all at Sushi-Mon.
