a couple people in this thread are saying beating midlimits quickly is unrealistic. but we should be clear which games we're talking about. the 40 at commerce and the 6-max 30 on stars are not exactly the same league.

[/ QUOTE ]

I guess that means the 40/80 game at Commerce is easy to beat? I have only played FL FR (Up to $50/$100 on PokerStars). Is the game at Commerce full ring one? Do you think I should give it a try if I was a constant winner @ 30/60 level while I was playing Fixed Limit?

3BB/HR equals to $120 in a $20/$40 game. Is it common for a "great" live pro?

Who is winning 3bb/100 online over a "long term" sample since no more Party? From what I've read you have to be pretty awesome to pull in 2bb/100 these days. If these players expand their superhuman godlike card playing ability even more to 4bb/100 in live games that is like 1.3bb/hour. 2bb/hour in a live game with a standard drop/time type structure is just plain impossible unless you play like 1 hour a month when the game is absolutely perfect and you are magically able to get into that game without having to wait on the list or play the game when it is at less than its absolute peak of softness.

timex,

i think what's most important here is not whether or not limit games are easy. it's the fact that NL players are losers and limit players are always way cooler. so if you start playing limit you will get to hang out with limit players, which is sweet.

well put. limit players are awesome, whereas NL players just say things like "lol minbet" and sleep with their sisters.

Limit hold'em is a lot subtler. When you look at a good vs avg limit hold em player you don't notice too many differences. Over a small smaple size an avg LHE player could beat a good LHE player simply by luck and variance. A good LHE holdem player will have a higher varience b/c they will be pushing smaller edges more consitantly. And I think thats where people get the idea that it's easy. There are a lot of obvious decisions to be made @ LHE but trying to figure out the not so obvious ones, now thats where a great player shines.

There was an article a couple months ago in 2p2 magazine entitled "I knew I could play". The author, an LHE player, talks about a few hands where he made a raise or fold in non obvious situations. Those are exactly the types of situtaions that separatet the great from the avg

Closer to non-existent than common.

3 big bets per hour? never. 2 is great, and 1.5 is very very good. 1 is more realistic.

Where do these fantasies originate?

Expansion of higher limits makes these hypotheticals pretty much moot sine no expert stays at 10/20 making 2-3bb/100. Either they move up, or stop being as vigilant on game selection and their overall game slips (its very hard to play at your peak when less effort still results in solid domination).
