I'd be super surprised if this were "illegal". You keep mentioning "hourly" employee. What makes that so special? Is it illegal for some hourly jobs to work on saturday instead of friday?

Dude, IDK. I know like zero about labor law. I just tried to give as specific of info as possible so that the lovely and positive knowledgeable people of OOT could assist me.

Just wanted to know if it's legal that's all. I mean if it is illegal someone SHOULD say something correct?

if i were your boss, you would have already been fired as i'm sure this type of thinking manifests itself in most everything you do.

Oh please I'm like the most outgoing, informative and productive employee in my office. It's just a [censored] question.

I wonder if they phrased it more as

"come by and spend some time setting up your desk on saturday so that you're ready to work first thing monday morning"

If it would be different.

If you're a network tech or something, obv it's different.

It's definitely going to be at least a 3/4 day. Could be 1 hour, still conflicts with my plans. I'm not the IT guy, we don't really have one. I will definitely have the burden of setting up 50% of the computers.

wow. just wow.

this is....well....not an issue to most. just go to work.

[/ QUOTE ]

Just add another "wow" for me and put me on this list.

Hourly employees at my work have mandatory overtime on weekends. They are expected to work it as long as they are given 24 hours notice. Standard.

This difference here is working Saturdays and overtime is not out of the norm, for OP it is.

Sweet we agree, but it's not my job. Just saying I will be asked by 1/2 the employees to help them cause they know nothing about computers. But that's besides the point and has nothing to do with my OP.

Do you think he'd mind if you went in early Monday morning "to set up desk make sure we are 100% operational".
What about Friday late afternoon. Movers might be done with your work area fairly early, giving you time to handle it then.
Talk to boss. Explain your plans. Work out a compromise. Slit his throat. Rent woodchipper.
