I'd cut off his penis too.

A willingness torture animals is actually one of the best indicators of homicidal tendencies.

I think you mean "you're not Law Enforcement or the Police"...

What if the man killing the cat was a police officer?

I would probably light the cat on fire before he went into the microwave. This way the fire would be superheated to the plasma phase and besides putting on one hell of a show, it would kill the cat instantly.

and then i would cut off the guys hand and penis

And I've always thought it was the willingness to cut off a man's penis that is actually one of the best indicators of homicidal tendencies.

"Some serial killers display one or more of what are known as the "MacDonald triad" of warning signs in childhood. These are:

Fire starting, invariably for the thrill of destroying things, for gaining attention, or for making the perpetrator feel more powerful.
Cruelty to animals (related to "zoosadism"). Many children may be cruel to animals, such as pulling the legs off spiders, but future serial killers often kill larger animals, like dogs and cats, and frequently for their solitary enjoyment rather than to impress peers.
Bed-wetting beyond the age when children normally grow out of such behavior."

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_killer

"Psychological studies have shown that individuals who take pleasure in inflicting harm on animals are more likely to do so to humans. This should not be confused with people who simply kill or harm animals for practical purposes (such as food, lab experiment, animal husbandry). One of the known warning signs of certain psychopathologies, including anti-social personality disorder, also known as psychopathic personality disorder, is a history of torturing pets and small animals, a behavior known as zoosadism. According to the New York Times, "[t]he FBI has found that a history of cruelty to animals is one of the traits that regularly appears in its computer records of serial rapists and murderers, and the standard diagnostic and treatment manual for psychiatric and emotional disorders lists cruelty to animals a diagnostic criterion for conduct disorders. [1] "A survey of psychiatric patients who had repeatedly tortured dogs and cats found all of them had high levels of aggression toward people as well, including one patient who had murdered a young boy.""

I wouldn't stop the execution. I think he's really sick, either mentally, or in the evil sense. So what? It's a cat, he's a human being. I really don't care if he microwaves 1000 cats, or that he's killing them. The only thing I would care about is the utalitarian use of cats to others, or the probability someone like him would harm humans.

I'm all for punishing him for doing it, and for anything that can be done to prevent people like this from harming society later. If he was in danger I'd happily kill baby seals to save him, even a horrible person like himself.

I might change my stance if there was some more information (backed up) that showed some of the higher animals feel similair feelings to us, but even then I'm not sure. I really don't think they're conscious so who cares if they're in pain? If unborn fetuses felt pain would people change their stance on abortion? I doubt it.

I think a good question to ask is: Say it was known someone was X% likely to seriously and permanently injure another human being (equivalent or less than losing a hand), but this could be prevented by removing his hand painfully. What does % does X have to be to justify doing this to him? What if this had to be done when he was eight years old?

I only added the last part because I think a lot of you are full of crap and are just being pulled by emotional strings. If instead of a cat it was a praire dog or skunk, how many people would change their answer?
