[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] You realize how silly this statement is? You are willing to defend the Dixie Twits right to expression by supressing my right to cricize them for their expression. You r dissenet is ok, and mine isn't? That is what you are saying. They weren't jailed ... there was no governmental censorship ... they were able to continue to say whatever they wanted negatively about Bush and the war, call him all sorts of names, etc. Those of us who disagreed with them expressed our feelings by not buying their albums or going to their concerts and calling them names. Seems to me that this worked out for everyone - a great example of freedom of speech for everyone involved. [/ QUOTE ] Ummm... cities had to consider cancelling their concerts because of the threats on their lives. When they did peform they had to have the cities police coordinate their security because of the endless deaththreats. The fascists we're talking about are the kind that threaten to kill people who disagree with them. [ QUOTE ] The only one I see stifling dissent is you. [/ QUOTE ] You are ridiculous. The right wing loonies threaten others lives. No one on this forum does any such thing. Your rhetoric is ridiculous. [/ QUOTE ] Jeez ... nice post. Read much? I said that anyone who threatened bodily harm to the Dixie Twits should be hunted down and prosecuted. There is no excuse for that. We can obviously agree with that and I stated it in a post before you obviously didn't read or chose to ignore. That said, most (if not all) of their concerts that were cancelled were cancelled due to lack of ticket sales, not threats to their life. This has been well documented and even you can find this information. The "facists" that were the subject of this thread were not only those who are nutcases ... this thread was mostly about people who simply disagreed with their statements and chose to exercise their free speech to show the disagreement. Nice try jumping to the extreme to try to disprove my point ... too bad it doesn't. As to my post about people on this forum, there are those here who are asserting that anyone who disagrees with their statements are supressing the Twits free speech. Good god man, read the thread. Now, go away, and spam someone else. NCAces |

[ QUOTE ] kurto: if we declare you the "winner" of this argument, will you shut up already? [/ QUOTE ] No. By the way, as a general rule when someone has 4 posts, I don't think they're starting out right in the forum just telling people to shutup. [/ QUOTE ] If you think that the number of one's posts has anything to do with the quality thereof, please re-read your posts above. They certainly cast doubt on your assertion. NCAces |

[ QUOTE ]
What has she done personally to support our troops? I mean she is one of those who proclaims the fiction "I oppose the war, but I support the troops", isn't she? [/ QUOTE ] Actually at this point, if you support the Iraq war, YOU ARE AGAINST THE TROOPS! So BGC, why do you hate our troops? They are in a situation that is unwinnable, and as long as they stay there, more soldiers are going to be killed and maimed. |

Jeez ... nice post. Read much? [/ QUOTE ] Yes, thanks for asking. [ QUOTE ] I said that anyone who threatened bodily harm to the Dixie Twits should be hunted down and prosecuted. There is no excuse for that. We can obviously agree with that and I stated it in a post before you obviously didn't read or chose to ignore. [/ QUOTE ] Sometimes people respond to a part of a thread. You'll note that in the thread that I've responded to you've said no such thing. So clearly I hadn't read. I'm glad you agree that they shouldn't have had death threats simply for disagreeing with the president. That is what we were all appalled by. This is what stifles free speech. [ QUOTE ] That said, most (if not all) of their concerts that were cancelled were cancelled due to lack of ticket sales, not threats to their life. This has been well documented and even you can find this information. [/ QUOTE ] Great. But you're talking about something else. We're talking about the stifling effect of (1) death threats and (2) the business attacks by the stations (I forget if was Clear Channel or Infinity broadcasting) [ QUOTE ] The "facists" that were the subject of this thread were not only those who are nutcases ... this thread was mostly about people who simply disagreed with their statements and chose to exercise their free speech to show the disagreement. Nice try jumping to the extreme to try to disprove my point ... too bad it doesn't. [/ QUOTE ] You can qualify what you think the thread was "mostly" about all you like. No one jumped to the extreme. I simply laughed at you claiming someone on the internet was the one stifling free speech. You accuse me of hyperbole? Ironic. [ QUOTE ] As to my post about people on this forum, there are those here who are asserting that anyone who disagrees with their statements are supressing the Twits free speech. Good god man, read the thread. [/ QUOTE ] I haven't reread the entire thread this morning but I'm willing to bet you're completely wrong. I challenge you to post a quote from anyone who said any such thing. A single post where someone said that if you disagreed with the Dixie Chicks you are surpressing their free speech (oh sorry... Twits... ha ha, so clever!). |

[/ QUOTE ] Do you struggle in life? If your brain can't hold that you can support your armed forces but be against the war the politicians sent them to fight. Not a powerhouse you have up there is it? [/ QUOTE ] the 101st fighting Keyboardists are at again - LOL - I have their new album - bought it last year after hearing them on Storytellers - it's pretty good - I liked that line from their single a few years ago "Long Time Gone"- they got money but they don't got Cash - a reference to the Nashville radio industry who was loaded but didn't have Johnny Cash in their airplay, despite Johnny winning a few Grammys in the 90's - Then a few years later, a band that Country radio ignores out of spite wins all these Grammys for what is still essentially, a Country album - I suspect their crossover appeal has more to do with the politics then the lifestyles of the new fans - there is irony there that is not lost on me - but god forbid independent women should voice dissent - shnhhh - shut up and sing and wear something low-cut and tight and then to top it all off, the evidence in retrospect shows Natalie was WAY ahead of the curve in her assessment of the chimp-in-chief - awesome. RB [/ QUOTE ] Great post. I love that song, too. Check out the lines before and after with the references to Merle Haggard and Hank Williams. |

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.
I'm not very smart so could anyone explain to me how the 1st amendment was violated by country music radio or it's fans? |
