Lol, I love that conservatives get all riled up about this. Like little innocent girls are gonna start craving penis because they get this shot. The ultimate irony is that the same parents who are paranoid about stuff like this are gonna end up with slutty daughters cause thet never have an honest conversation about sex with them.

There is always a cost/benefit analysis to be done.

Agreed. A quick, back-of-the-cortex analysis gives me a value of around $10,000-15,000 for the HPV protection likely afforded by this vaccine. This is low, by the way, since I am only considering the cost associated with the risk of death and ignoring the cost of treatment. (I can go into the way this value was derived if anyone is interested)

The cost of the treatment is $360.

For those who have daughters of the appropriate age, as do I, this is an absolute no-brainer of a decision.

The question is, would you be happy if that power of choice was taken away from you?

You can learn a lot about vaccines on the internet, but the basic premise we can agree upon is that people need to have a choice in the matter, as they do currently under law.

Let me leave you with a thought, however.
There is currently a "vaccine" under development or testing phase which will "cure" people of smoking. Tobacco. One side effect, though, is that since it seals certain brain receptors or something, the vaccinated person may no longer be able to experience happiness or pleasure in the normal way. In my opinion this is far too high a price. Actually I think it is unethical at all. But it's the future, and any precedent now for compulsory vaccination, well, how would you like your brain to be seared like that?

i would prefer the vaccine to be optional. those who avoid the vaccine for irrational beliefs will have a lower chance of reproducing, so its +EV for humanity.

No doubt you have heard of the thermosol or whatever, the mercury in vaccines. Is it an irrational belief to not want your infant given 250 times the epa safe level for mercury?

I don't get it. Maybe you can rationalize it for really horrible diseases like polio, but for ear infections?
Sounds like a rational argument to me, that the risk is too high for like an ear infection vaccine.

Maybe you should look up the normal vaccinations infants receive today versus 20 years ago. Something like 3-7 then versus 20-30 now.

And if all vaccinations are safe, why are the vaccine companies protected by special legislation whereby they cannot be sued for injury caused by their products?

Are these not rational questions?

That was not the question I was addressing, but rather the cost/benefit question which you (and, I think, another) had brought up. From that perspective, the initial answer is that the HPV vaccine is an extraordinarily cost-effective treatment.

There's no "maybe" for the polio vaccine; just ask anyone who lived before it was introduced. I don't disagree with your premise, however - I don't see much benefit (and possibly some problems related to the length of protection) with the chicken pox vaccine, but I'm not an MD or epidemiologist and could well be wrong here.

No, the thing is you put your judgement and values into the equation and came up with a conclusion. Others will come up with different conclusions based on different values and judgement, probably. That is my point. How would you like it if some authority said, no , no , you underestimated the costs/risks by a factor of 100, so no, you cannot have it.

All vaccines voluntary in US.

Certain vacines are mandatory if you wish your child to recieve a public education.

Not last I checked.. From my most recent experience you could avoid getting any vacines (that would normally be required) by stating that it's "against your religion."
