[ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Peyton is a great QB and is lucky that he was drafted by a organization that did such a solid job in terms of aquiring and keeping talent and building around him. If Peyton is drafted by the Cardinals...no one mentions his name 20 years from now. [/ QUOTE ] The Colts pretty much were the Cardinals before Manning got there. Outside of one fluke year with Jim Harbaugh they had never won a playoff game since coming to Indy. [/ QUOTE ] Peyton isn't the reason they became great. Just like Brady isn't the reason NE won 3 superbowls. He was a huge factor but A someone had to choose him as their QBB someone had to aquire WR's,Te's,Olinemen, a offensive cordinator who would realize what he had in Peyton and build the perfect system around him and his talent.Anyone that thinks Peyton becomes an all time great QB regardless of what team he is drafted by/plays for his smoking some seriously strong weed. [/ QUOTE ] You can say that all you want but bad organizations seem to get turned around real quick when they get lucky enough to find a franchise QB. I guess Jim Mora must have been a developmental genius. [/ QUOTE ] Every QB drafted in the top 3 is a franchise qb. If Jake Plummer is drafted by Bill Walsh instead of Buddy Ryan or whoever it was that drafted him....who knows how much better of a career he has or doesn't has. Or better yet..if Mike Shanahan gets Mike Vick instead of Griese/bubby/Plummer etc It makes ALL the difference. A Qb has to have the tools and talents, smart, drive etc...but you can't fit a square peg into a round hole no matter how hard u try. [/ QUOTE ] One name comes instantly to mind. Rick Mirer. b |

All athletes in all sports are at the mercy of the team that drafts them. If they get picked up by a bad organization that can't develop them as they need to be developed, or put the appropriate team around them, they have no shot to be great.
To say that Manning is only as good as he is because the Colts built around him is foolish. Of course he depends on his team to develop him & build the offense around him. All players do. Manning is a better QB in every way than Tom Brady, except in one: Brady has a better defense. THat's it. He's still a good QB, but doesn't have the skill of Manning. Football is the "ultimate team game". To say Brady is a better QB because he has more rings is ridiculous. Brady doesn't play all 22 positions on the field. He plays one. And he doesn't play defense, which is what earned those rings. Of course, I'd still say Manning/Brady are 1-2 for QB talent in the league, and nobody else is challenging, yet. |

Of course, I'd still say Manning/Brady are 1-2 for QB talent in the league, and nobody else is challenging, yet. [/ QUOTE ] since these guys arose, other guys have challenged them, but injuries or other things have slowed them down. 2 examples being McNabb and Palmer. Re: Peyton, he's obviously ridiculous. As I've said before, it's folly to punish him 100% b/c his team hasn't won SB's, but it's also folly to completely ignore it 100%. You can't simply ignore the fact that in 2003 (Patriots), 2004 (Patriots), and 2005 (Steelers), he vastly underperformed in the playoffs as compared to how he performed against those same teams in the regular season that very year. I think that playing your best in the biggest games has to count for something, and up until now, Peyton has fallen short in this category. All that said, he has plenty of time to make up for his shortcomings in this regard, and he is on the very short list of best QB's ever. |

Of course, Brady has not played his best in some of these big games either, but his defense and ST have carried him.

I wasn't ready to put Manning on the list before, but I think I am now. It wasn't chance he hadn't made it to the SuperBowl. He was missing something that he's found. If you watched him in those past playoff games, when Indy got down Manning just looked frustrated and beaten. Hell, he looked like Eli. This year when they got down 21-3, if you looked at his face he didn't look beaten. He just looked pissed off and determined.
