dibbs, K, and others: Some of you guys are looking real good as far as potential posse members to roll to the hottest celeb parties with me.
All: Do you suggest mixing my mashups with this same sofware or am I getting something else for that? |

El D,
I'm not an authority on this stuff personally but I have a couple of friends who DJ and perform live music sets, and they make use of a couple of products which are pretty wicked and that haven't been mentioned so far: Live 6 by Ableton Ableton site Ableton wiki Final Scratch Final Scratch wiki (Final Scratch official site seems to be down atm) Both of those are used a lot, particularly by electronic artists at live events, but they could certainly be used in your endeavour methinks. Final Scratch is pretty crazy to see in action. There is another freaky little sampling box, the name of which slips my mind atm, which had some cool features. When I remember I'll post it. None of my friends have this yet, but they will be acquiring at some point. Good luck! |

Yo Dirty Diablo,
Obviously if you are going to be a mixtape mogul, you've got to have a tight steeze. I'd like to volunteer my services as a style consultant. I'm also expecting to be in charge of your clothing/sneaker line, which is a must if you really want to run the streets. P.S. Wanting to be Pharrell or Danger Mouse is wanting to be two incredibly different things. |

Do you know a music rights lawyer that will negotiate the ability to use said samples and loops from Sony, BMG, Universal, Island, et al? I assume you're doing this to produce product for money.
If it's just for your cousin's Super Sweet 16, that's one thing, but to make $$$ at this, you may want to clear all your samples ahead of time or end up BUSTO like The Verve, etc, etc. Plus, even if you win in court over the length of a sample [3 notes? 4??], fighting with Sony for 3 years is -EV. |

[/ QUOTE ] Yea you'd most likely be doing this with Pro Tools, Sonar, Acid Pro, Cubase etc. What you basically do is record in the acapella and the instrumentals you want (from vinyl usually), and you can line them up in the sequencer of these programs, chop them up, mess with tempo, add effects and totally tweak stuff as you see fit etc. |

RJ, Oh dude, turntables and vinyl will most definitely be involved. However, I think I will need software as well, and will definitely need software to become the king of mash-ups, part of this that people seem to be overlooking. [/ QUOTE ] What about a live drummer for your world tours? I heard daryn's pretty good. |
