"There has been no change in our registration policy," he said. "We do not accept third-party registrations from online pay-to-play poker sites that do business with U.S. residents. We didn't do that in 2005 or 2006 either."

[/ QUOTE ]

Yeah, I'm really confused by this too.

If Stars didn't buy my seat in 2005 then how the hell did I get in?

Stars sent in the money in my name. I showed up and picked-up my registration-card which was already waiting for me.

So I have no idea what they mean by "no 3rd party registrations from online sites" if evidently what they did for me (and several thousand players over the past few years) evidently isn't that.

this just doesn't make any sense at all.

FWIW - UB is already running satellites for the WSOP.

I'm assuming that FT and Stars will be soon also.

Also note that one of the prizes for Supernova Elite on Stars is a WSOP package.

[/ QUOTE ]

Which of the remaining online sites have the best satellites to get in?

I'm planning on playing in one of the lower buy in events, specifically Event 6, the $1500 limit hold em event. Will I start with only 1500 in chips (my assumption)? If not, how many will I start with?

[/ QUOTE ]
[ QUOTE ]
Unfortunately, yes you will only start with 1500 chips which is why I'm not a big fan of WSOP tournaments at buy-ins under $3K. You pay $2K for an event, get 2,000 in chips, one PF raise and continuation bet could be 25% of your stack!

[/ QUOTE ]

Last year in one of the $1K events I believe they started at 2K in chips. It might also have been a 1.5K and 2 or 3 in chips. It was one event though.

Also, Good Luck WSOP in getting 9,000 in the main event. Set your goal for 5K and be happy if you get that.

[/ QUOTE ]

The $1,000 event started with 1.5k in chips as did the $1,500 buy-in events. These events are not structured very well. Unless it's a WSOP bracelet you want to play for there are better options in Vegas at these prices.

[/ QUOTE ]

The $1,500 I played had a first prize over $300k. That's worth playing for.

So here's my question and forgive me if this is a stupid one.

Some events are listed as world championship events while others are not. Does this mean that these events are not bracelet events? What's the skinny?

Straight Flushes,

Just rented a townhome for 6.5 weeks. No damn hotels for me this year.

Dude, I got a townhome off the strip to get AWAY from all the degenerates.

Okay, we know Kramer's a degen, but what about me? I could use the stabilizing influence.

Also:

June 7, 2007 Thursday 12 noon 12 No-Limit Hold’em / Six Handed (3 day event) $ 1,500.00
June 11, 2007 Monday 5 PM 20 Seven Card Stud Hi-low-8 or Better (3 day event) $ 2,000.00
June 13, 2007 Wednesday 12 noon 22 No-Limit Hold’em (3 day event) $ 5,000.00
June 14, 2007 Thursday 5 PM 24 World Championship Seven Card Stud Hi-Low Split-8 or Better (3 day event) $ 3,000.00
June 18, 2007 Monday 12 noon 30 No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed (3 day event) $ 2,500.00
June 28, 2007 Thursday 12 noon 45 No-Limit Hold'em / Six Handed (3 day event) $ 5,000.00
June 28, 2007 Thursday 5 PM 46 Seven Card Stud Hi-Low-8 or Better (3 day event) $ 1,000.00

I'm predicting a bracelet from one of these.

"The Odd Couple" was a great television show and movie, but I do not think I want to live it in real life.

All 55 events are bracelet events. But only one in each discipline is the "World Championship Event".
For NL Hold'em this is of course the main-event. For HORSE it's the $50,000 event and in most other cases it is the $5,000 buy-in event (it's always the one with the highest buy-in).

So there are 55 bracelets and 12+1 World Champions after the WSOP is over.

I think this is a great idea! Now we get a true World Champion in each important discipline of poker

Yeah...I wouldn't say Harrah's say-so makes a tournament a world championship...certainly not a "true World Champion"ship.

I suspect they looked at complaints that the Main Event isn't necessarily representative of poker skill and thus not appropriate for crowning the One True World Champion Of Poker, and combined them with complaints that with so many bracelets for Hold'em there was no way to claim greater importance for one over another, and came up with the biggest buy-in=world champion idea.

I think actually calling them "World Championships" is a new thing, but it's been sort of done informally for years with the 10k PLO and the 5k Stud.

So now Norm gets a dozen more tournaments where he can work "<u>Worllllld Champion!</u>" into his ex-wife gags. He needed some fresh material, I guess.

It just seems like it's one thing for the players to informally recognise a particular event as the event for a particular game, and another for a promoter to say "hey, my event is it." Sure, you're probably not going to find a bigger stud or omaha tournament, and certainly not HORSE, but $1000 ladies-only? Every tournament series has that. $1000 seniors, the same. Someone in a corner office at Harrah's is drooling at what the enhanced integrated marketing synergies will do to his bonus this year, not thinking of what's good for the game.
