I'm from Ohio...we don't get famous people here.

I walked by Mike Tyson and his 12 or so bodyguards in Tower City Shopping area in Cleveland. It was back probably 1992ish. Tower City has an underground walkway to the Cavs stadium and my dad and I were headed there.

Bill Walton gave a speech at Ohio University where I go and he signed autographs afterwards.

Major League Gaming, MLG pro's Ogre 1 and Ogre 2 goto Ohio University and We have some mutual friends who play Halo. We've LAN'd Halo 1 a few times and also have partied with them a few times also.

St. Patricks day '06 I met Cleveland Cavalier great Austin Carr a bar in Cleveland because he is one of the TV announcers and they had a home game that day.

Austin Carr

We used to play racquetball at the same club, and while he was sitting down in the locker room, a guy actually came up to him one day and said something to the effect of, "I thought you'd be taller."

Jazzy Pha asked me if i had seen his blackberry while i was waiting for a flight to LA in the ATL airport. i replied back, "nah, yo"

Lil John got out of his Hummer the same time as i got out of my car on spring st. in ATL. we were both parking in the varsity lot to go to J.R. Crickets to get some wings. We got to the order line at the same time, and he cut in front of me. This was before his famous "yeaa" bs.

Latrell Sprewell grabbed my camera from me when i was plastered some thursday night in milwaukee, and demanded to know why i was taking pictures of him. i wasn't (i could barely stand up) and was acting all hard (for a skinny white kid) and he slammed my camera down and left.

here's the pic he tried to delete. i know all the people in front, and i have a ton of high-up shots from the night. my guess is the fat guy with the chain and pink shirt is his friend.

i'd like to note that Latrell is actually pretty cool, and i've been hammered and obnoxious around him a bunch, and this was the first and only time he did some [censored] like this.

edit: i also have a pic of me and cee-lo, back when he dropped his first album. he signed my cd too. props to AKEDBet who drove my ass to the cd signing. thanks bro.

Oh, and the only famous person there's even a vague chance any americans have heard of was the Doctor Who in the first series of the remake. That was at Glastonbury (big outdoor series of concerts), and I suspect he hung around with us because he had several liters of vicious vodka mix.

I have met most of the famous people you read bout playing poker and some you haven't read about, but working in gaming I can't mention exactly who I have met. My father played HS football against and college football with Howard "Hopalong" Cassady and for years his tickets at Ohio State were next to Hopalong and I went to a few games and met him.

Oh, does poker count? Then I've met pretty much everyone on Team PokerStars. Joe Hachem is cool.

I've met Neal Boortz and made enough of an impression to get mentioned on the air the next day. I've met Michael Badnarik (former Libertarian Party presidential candidate) and we've had him over to our house a couple a couple of times. I've met Aaron Russo (of America: Freedom to Fascism fame) several times from when he was campaigning for the LP presidential ticket; my wife still has his number in her cell phone. We're pretty good friends now with Vin Suprynowicz, a libertarian syndicated columnist for the Las Vegas Review Journal (and great guy).

I've been arm's length from Hugh Hefner when I went to the Playboy Mansion, but I wouldn't say that I met him. I did get to meet and chat with Kendra, one of his three current "girlfriends." I graduated with Phillip Rivers, who is a vat-grown quarterbacking machine, at NCSU (where he is already a legend), and met him briefly in the hallway at the ceremony.

I know several people who've met really famous people. My sister went to high school with Michael Jordan (I went to the same school, E.A. Laney HS, but it was years later), and was his chemistry lab partner I think. She also shook hands with Ronald Reagan when she graduated the Naval Academy. A buddy of mine was Sean Connery's executive assistant for a year or so in Hollywood. My wife debated Bill O'Reilly (kicked his ass) on The O'Reilly Factor as well as Tucker Carlson and James Carville on Crossfire, but those were from a local studio; she didn't actually meet them in person. The second time she went to the Playboy Mansion she met several celebrities, Luke Wilson, the Barbi Twins, etc. I can't remember them all. Another friend was an extra on Dawson's Creek and met a bunch of famous people, the only one I remember being Katie Holmes. My ex-wife met Def Leppard (she probably blew them).

This is a good thread, OP.

2-3 Stories I can recall:

1. When I was in 7th grade, I was semi-friendly/acquaintences with George Karl's son, back when he coached the Seattle Supersonics. I went on a school field trip with his son (his mom was chaperone). On the way back, we stopped at his dad's office and I got to meet him.

2. When I was very young (2nd or 3rd grade) I met Gene Wilder at the vets. He was taking his dog for treamment and I was bringing in my cat. I sat down next to him and talked for a while. I was unaware of who he was at the time until my mother told me later.

3. The Govenor of Florida appeared at my high school a few times for various reasons.

For one semester, I peed every Tuesday and Thursday next to Duff from Guns and Roses.

Played three holes of golf with Chi Chi Rodriguez (part of a junior golf prize)

Chatted with Dave Matthews and his wife in a downtown Seattle parking lot, and met him previously at a restaurant.

In high school, smoked a cigarette with all of the (then) members of Modest Mouse.

Played golf with Dan O'Brian (old famous olympic decathlon guy)

Met and chatted with Adam Duritz of Counting Crows.

He's not really too famous, but it's a funny story: after he was drafted, but before he played, Marcus Trufant of the Seattle Seahawks bummed a light from a buddy of mine at a Seattle bar. We had no idea who he was, and he turned away, then turned back and actually said "you don't know who I am, do you?" We said "should we?" and he said "yea, you probably should, I'm Marcus Trufant." He was a goofy guy, so we just laughed and said sure, Marcus Trufant, and chatted for a bit.
