a conversation with my best friend the other day who knows nothing about gambling, except that I play poker:



him: "I worked 2 hrs OT today"

me: "that sucks"

him: "no, it's good. I got a bunch of OT this week, I'm working like 48 hours total. I'm gonna take home over 800"

me: "umm...is that good?"

him: "why? how much did you make this week"

me: "I made like 1300, but I only played like 20 hours"

him: "yeah, but how much did you lose?"

This was a monumental BBV moment for me. I had never been BHMDYL'd in real life before and never really believed it actually happened. I was going to post about it, but forgot until I saw this post. The most amazing part is that it came from my best friend, not some clueless co-worker or distant family member or someone who doesn't know what I do. He was really serious about it and pressed on, so I just told him that I actually won $2000 and lost $700. He settled for that answer. Non-gamblers are funny sometimes.

I don't tell too many people that I play poker, but one guy in my residence definitely likes telling people.

So I am in the caf, and some guy from my highschool passes me and he says
"I hear you've made some money at poker"
"Did Tuhin tell you?"
"Ya"
"Ya, I've done pretty well"
"I heard you've made xxx,xxx, is that true"
"A bit more at this point, but ya, something like that"
"Do you lose a lot"
"I have my ups and downs"
"So you do lose a lot?"
"Ya, I suppose you could say that"
"How much have you lost?"
"I don't keep track, but my overall profit is xxx,xxx"

I am starting to get these retarded comments and questions from people to, as word has spread recently that I've been playing "pro" for awhile, and have been lying to them about the past. I always just said "Yeah, still at my job" etc, they had no reason to not believe me. My gf is even starting to get hassled at by her co-workers for money, taking her shifts, etc(she works with people that know most of my friends, so word spreads). "I'd like your shift, it's not like you need the money." "Soooo, how much does your boyfriend blow a day at poker?" "I'm surprised you haven't dumped him yet. You work so hard at your jobs and go to school full time, and all he does is sit in a chair and click a mouse. I know I would have dumped him by now." Those are just a few of the random idiotic questions/statements she receives on a weekly basis.
