I'm defininetly anti-counting. (For myself, of course. To each their own.) I'm on the "Eat Less, Exercise More" diet. I thought about writing a few books and going on talkshows, but I pretty much only have those 4 words...
One of my pet peeves with dieters is when friends have to hear about it constantly. It's half fishing for compliments and half inconveniencing others for your own benefit. I had a good friend who was very into counting. He had a program where he input exactly what he ate and exactly how much he exercised, and it gave him forecasts and 3 or 4 line graphs, and that's all great. But when I made dinner and invited him over, he wanted to know how many tablespoons of oil I used, and whether I used skim mozzarella or whole, and so on. I was cooking the guy dinner, for goodness sake. Since most dieting is inherently vain (at least mine is), I like the fact that it's mostly an internal thing. Friends probably notice I'm having smaller meals, and that I've been exercising more, but I don't want it to take-over my life (and I sure as hell don't want it to take-over theirs.) -Sam |

Another thing I like about my casual approach is that it's more flexible. I've been generally eating smaller portions, but last night I ate more than I planned. (Because I made a [censored] great risotto with pan-seared scallops and sage-butter!) so I spent some extra time at the gym today.
I don't feel so bad about taking the second helping, but it's nice to be able to give a little here and take a little there, as long as I stay on track over all. -Sam P.S. So far that track has been ~4 lbs since just before xmas. I really don't want to count lbs either, but I have to admit that I want that scale to have a "1" in the hundreds column. [ QUOTE ]
I weighed 278lb on the 1st January. I've read the charts/sites/etc, and want to get down to 196 to suit my height and build (just over 6'2" and large frame). I have 82lb to lose. Taking into account breaks for holidays, I want to lose roughly 7lb a month for the next year. So my first goal is to lose 7lb by 1st February. I'll keep you posted. [/ QUOTE ] Okay, it's a few days early, but I hit my 7lb loss. 271lb this morning. So new goal is 264lb by 1st March. How's every else doing. Oh, I had another goal I hit too, but I never said that. I wanted to at least doulbe my bankroll between 1st Jan and 1st March. I've already exceeded that, glad to say. I'm scaling it down now to add another 50% to my BR by 1st March... How's everyone else doing with their resolutions? |

I'm not doing well on the hands goal, or bankroll goal. This is mostly because I moved cross country, and spent 5 days on the road, then took an additional week to get moved into my place and get internet.
However, my weight loss goal is intact, I didn't even post in this thread. Started at 260 jan 1, and now am at 252. I'm calorie counting and this past week am just consuming 1200 calories/day. i'm not eating a bad meal for half of my daily calories either, i'm just either very healthy low cal stuff all day so I can keep going. I feel great. -nation |

My weightloss has been going well. I saw 207lbs around christmas, which was way too high. This morning I saw 193.5. (It's a digital scale. )
I've been cooking a ton more, so I worried I'd eat too much. Instead, I've been just focusing on eating as much as I should instead of as much I can. I've also been doing tons of cardio; an hour of elliptical trainer probably 5 times a week. We have a DVD player in front of the machine, so I've been getting tv-dvds through BlockbusterOnline. I'm almost through Smallville Season4 ... and Sopranos Season4. An old roommate wants to get into lifting, and he's really gung-ho about it; he's been going every single MWF for a few weeks now. He really appreciates when I can go with him, since I've been lifting for a few years. I'd be nice to get stronger again; there was a time when I maxed out bench at 325, and last Friday I could barely put up 275. Muscle-gain will slow the falling numbers on the scale, but I just have to remind myself that the exact poundage really isn't what it's all about. -Sam P.S. I almost forgot: I had 1 tacobell stufft burrito a couple weeks ago, and that's been my only fast food since newyears. (It was really, really good, though.) |

Congrats on teh work Sam. 15 pounds off or so isn't too shabby at all. If I lost that I would be at what I would consider my ideal weight...Unfortunately, I don't exercise enough to lose weight even though I eat healthier now than I have in years.
You're an inspration Sam, keep it up! Maybe I'll join ya in shedding some pounds eventually! Sidenote: Since I never responded in this thread. My NYGoal was simply to not drink any pop all year except for three 20 oz. "Big Red" pops. I drank those by January 2nd and haven't come even close to drinking pop since. I think I can manage this quite easily. |

a tad late getting these in, but i think posting this will help me:
1) lose weight (20-30 lbs) 2) record 5 songs (1 done) 3) get physio for my arm (5 years later) |
