[ QUOTE ]
Leak: TILT i have many smaller leaks, but by far far far tilt is my biggest leak and causes me to lose multiple buy-ins quiet often. [/ QUOTE ] I find that I'm constantly fighting tilt when I play online, in contrast to my non-tilting brick-and-mortar persona. For me, when I'm in a room by myself, the worst things happen to my behavior. Things I would never do if a friend were in the room -- kicking a chair, busting a door, screaming expletives -- happen when I'm playing online. Fix: Create another "presence" to help control your outbursts. I sort of borrowed this idea from my competitive chess days, where I would "dedicate" a game to a friend or family member before beginning play. For online poker, I picked two players who I've never seen get rattled -- Alan Cunningham and Phil Ivey -- and cut out some pictures of them to have sitting around my monitor. Sounds silly and all, but it's very calming for me to sit there and think "what would Ivey do?" when I feel I might be in danger of tilting. Leak: Staying at a table too long when I'm clearly not playing my best. |

Leak: Looking at my results every 2 seconds Leak: Stacking off to rocks with marginal holdings Leak: Berating fish Leak: playing AK/AQ [/ QUOTE ] Fixes: I also look at my results. This can cause tilt, but I can't control this habit either! No other option but having the discipline not to. Don't stack off the rocks. If in a big pot with rock, you better have a big hand. Simple enough. (But we all do it from time to time). Don't take the tank. Do anything but tap the tank. I make one comment at most, and generally don't make it very harsh. Just sarcastic "wow nice play" type of stuff. And of course, only if I lose :-D AK and AQ can be tricky (esp AQ) but one thing to remember is try to win a medium pot with AK (except against the idiot fish and calling stations) and relatively small/medium ones with AQ (in the assumption of a TPTK or TP2K situation). You generally don't want to be firing three times into a TAG with single pairs. My Leaks: My biggest leak has to be playing against maniacs. Also, I have a little bit of trouble believing people (often because I find some people BSing me consistently because I tend to play somewhat of a trappy bluff-catching game). I also tend to spew with AK when say I reraise from the BB only to bet out and get minraised. I probably call here too much for no good reason. |

Leak: Overplay TPTK or TPGK on flop when my bet is raised - I seem to ALWAYS see some sort of draw that I should push all in to stop. I frequently get shown sets or 2 pair.

Leak Playing TPTK poorly against a flop check min raise.
Leak Doubling up a short stack when i have mid-low pocket pair/AK when i raise preflop Leak Being unsure what to do when i get donked in to on the flop and the turn in the same hand. To clarify, third leak i mean is a TPTK hand where i have raised preflop. villain calls oop. villain makes a 2bb bet in to a 9 bb pot. I raise pot. he calls and then bets out 3bb on turn. arrrrrrgh. |

[/ QUOTE ] Fix: 3betting with TPTK/TPGK is almost always spew. If you have reason to believe he's on a draw, call and push/check-raise AI on a blank turn. Leak: I'm a calling station in medium-sized pots. I seem to always fold one street too late. |

Leak: Slipping into auto-pilot mode preflop. My opening ranges should change drastically depending on how many limpers there are, how they play and how the players behind me play. Specifically I need to pay attention to VPIP, Folds to C-bet, and Betting Frequency before choosing whether it is most profitable to raise/call/fold a marginal hand.
Leak: Indiscriminately Calling down maniacs who bet their monsters differently from their Bluffs and crap. Leak: Forgetting to open up my preflop 3-betting range, and my bluffing range, when deep. Leak: Slower poker development and less online buddies because I'm more shy and not as nice online than in real life. Not PM-ing / AIMing 2p2'ers who I really respect enough because I find it intimidating. Leak: Timing out when posting on 2p2 fdshklaflkdjfhalsdkjfh. Accidentally folding monsters occasionally because of multitasking with AHK scripts. Choosing a cheap high-download-quota low-network-quality ISP that drops out too much. Not having a Neteller account because I'm too tight to pay for a passport. Leak:I'm much much better now, but I still berate fish outright occasionally, and frequently say stuff like: "OMFG Rigged!!", "Jesus!", etc in the chatbox. Anything at all is too much when it comes to this. I should have the discipline to turn chat off completely. Leak:The GF |

LEAK: Bad note-taking. By the end of a session, I feel like I have an OK grasp of my opponents, but whenever I see them again, they're almost complete unknowns because I have no notes or bad notes on them. [/ QUOTE ] fix: use the PT note taking facility. everyday before you play pick one regular from your PTdb. ( I do this while I am waiting to build up some stats on the players at the tables I just opened that I plan on selecting from later) call them up in PT and look through their hands see what hands they play and from where - check out their big pots - find a leak they have and make notes. upload notes to poker site (PT has a v useful auto export feature for this) tho sadly it doesn't work for FT - you need to copy & paste the notes you wrote into the "Find a Player" window (type the SN of the player you have just taken notes on into the Find a player - then click the "take notes" button after it's searched for them, paste in the notes you took into the window that pops up AND REMEMBER TO CLICK SAVE! - you can save notes into the client this way whether they are online or not) I've stopped taking notes at the table(unless something really stand out happens and I shorthand it) and just take notes apres session, when I'm carefully going through someones hands I can spot stuff better and really work up a good picture of someone so in the future when I play these guys again I have the book written on them - it's also good to give them a yellow LED light so they really stand out when I'm looking through tables to select from. LEAK: I Can't look at a graph of my results - I started playing full ring last week for a change of scenery - ran well for 2k hands decided to look at the graph - next 1000 hands started playing bad and nice smooth gentle upslope graph takes a giant downturn. Something about seeing how well I am doing subconciously throws my game out of the window - short of deleting pokergrapher how can I fix this? |
