[ QUOTE ] Who cares? The went into the toughest stadium in America, played the #1 team, and played their asses off. As a Michigan fan I am very proud of my team. On an unrelated note, I don't get all the Carr-bashing. The guy's record in big games (other than OSU recently) is superb and he showed alot of class the last few days, unlike whine-boy Urban Meyer. [/ QUOTE ] No way...it's Carr who is the whiner He targeted Meyer when Meyer has been nothing but consistent with his comments all year. Meyer has said that he wants a playoff system from the getgo and that winning the SEC title is very impressive in just about every coaches' conference where the question has been asked. I've watched his press conferences all year...nothing but consistency. It sure beats Lloyd Carr, who talked of not believing in a rematch prior to the Ohio State game. Damn....his tune sure changed. [/ QUOTE ] Im not 100% he ever said he opposed a rematch (Schembechler did). Even so, this past weekend he never once said Michigan deserved to go. All he said was "I hope we don't get pentalized for not playing." Maybe an indirect plea, but far classier than Urban's complaining/campaigning. |

I would've loved to watch Michigan play SC's schedule this year. One of the main reasons the Wolverines record improved so much is that the big10 was pretty decent this year, but crappy this year. Michigan lost time and again to decent, but not great opposition last year. Playing difficult teams every week leads to things like Hart being injured. It's a tough grind verse a real schedule. This year's big10 was the biggest walk in the park that I can remember in that conference since 1997. [/ QUOTE ] It's difficult to take you seriously when you constantly take cheap shots like this 1997 comment. |

The thing is they didn't struggle with the goods one's the struggled with the crappy competition. Michigan for the most part steam rolled the crappy competition. They played well in both of their top 7 matchups this year, atleast as well as they could expect.
Is it Michigan's fault that PSU, MSU, etc wasn't as good as previous years? Maybe PSU wasn't good b/c it lost to get this: Wisconsin Michigan tOSU ND Hmmmm...guess they aren't that bad after all. Iowa wasn't as good as expected but before the Indiana loss they had played well. They kinda fell apart to end the season though. I'm not saying Michigan would go underdefeated with USC's schedule. But I'm pretty sure they beat OSU on the road and UCLA at home. |

how is it a cheap shot?
Wasn't the big10 pretty bad in 97? Didn't they embarrass themselves in the bowl matchups? Or, do I have the wrong year? |

I'm sure you just "happened" to pick the year that Michigan won the national championship. [/ QUOTE ] damn....I went back over Sagarin ratings Big10 was last in 2001 and 2002 among major conferences. Funny, wasn't that when Ohio State ran the table. Is the pattern showing yet? Teams that run the table often come from down conferences. Arguing for two big10 teams this year would be nearly equivalent to arguing for Louisville-West Virginia rematch had they not stubbed their toes later in the year. Fortunately, the BigEast was strong enough to knock both those teams with another loss, whereas the big10 wasn't strong enough to test Michigan and Ohio State over and over. |

OSU (#2) went to play ACC#1 (and possibly the most talented team that year, FSU), so you had Big Ten #3 PSU (without Curtis Enis and Joe Jurivicious against SEC#2 Florida and Big Ten #5 (Purdue was tied for 2nd but wound up in the Alamo) Wisconsin against SEC#3 Georgia. Then Big Ten #6 Iowa played Pac Ten #3 in Arizona State. I'm not entirely sure how a slate of stacked matchups proves the Big Ten sucked that year. Reverse the slate (and take away the two best offensive players from Florida) and we'll see what it looks like. But yeah, the Big Ten wasn't great or anything that year, I agree, but your argument is silly because it lacks context. |
