Thoughts on Rudolph Valentino and the era in general?

(No, not The Sheik, he overcompensated there, but I'll leave that thread hanging)

Thanks for the future book rec.s pryor. I figure they might offer some advice into what I'm looking for. I really like your idea about watching a film, jotting notes, reviewing critics, and watching again....

I feel like I have pretty good handle for many movies as to why I like them or not. When I get into conversations with my one movie buddy (also kinda just starting but still better than anyone else I know), we tend to pinpoint what we like or don't like. Sometimes it just gets hard for me to say what I want to say in conversations on the net too...as you may or may not have noticed.

As another question you can handle at some point:
Before Sunset or Before Sunrise, and specifically one reason why?

*****spoliers for those that haven't seen them**********

though, not pryor, I always love talking about these films. Personally, I'd go with sunset because they have lived life and when they run into each other there is much retrospection for how they wanted to live their lives and how things haven't gone really right because of not meeting each other in vienna, but at the same time realizing that there is still something very there between them and they still realize it but don't want to fully accept it

How can films change the world, if at all?

Do you have a good milkshake recipe? I'm really looking for one.

[/ QUOTE ]

actually, i used to work midnight to morning at a diner where we made lots of frappes, which are a kind of milkshake

in a large metal milkshake cup thingy:

3 scoops of chocolate ice cream
1 glass of chocolate milk
1 piece of chocolate cream pie, no crust
a generous helping of chocolate syrup

the key is the piece of pie. there are tons of variations on this, but the pie is the thing.

[/ QUOTE ]

Thanks! I have no idea why I knew you'd be able to answer that, but you did. I'll try this one out tonight.

critically, i think they're a joke. i put pretty much zero stock in whatever opinions they express, as i do with much of the fanboy set.

but, i'm a sucker for info on upcoming films, so i do check them out every couple of days.

this is pretty spot on to what i would have said.

i think Sunset is clearly the better film, and the one i prefer, but i could easily see how someone younger and more idealistic would prefer Sunrise.

me, i like a little more melancholy in my love stories
