I'd go with Perry Ferrell. One of the few I've seen live whose singing has blown me away.

Geoff Tate. The guy could probably be an accomplished opera singer if he wanted. I've seen him twice in concert (15 years apart) and his voice was awesome both times. He doesn't miss a note. Dickinson, Rob Halford are not far behind, but I don't think they possess the range of Tate.

If you haven't heard Tate get Operation Mindcrime and listen.

I love Kurt Cobain when he's really belting it out. His voice on tracks like Aneurysm, where he's stretching for something is great.

Chris Cornell is obviously one of the greats. As is Eddie Vedder. How these two ended up in the same band for a while? Wow.

Andrew Stockdale from Wolfmother is a fantastic singer, if you havent heard much of him, download 'White Unicorn' or 'Joker and the thief'. They are really good.

Richard Ashcroft from The Verve is pretty damn good too.

Plant and Cornell are my votes.

Re: Cornell -
The live criticism is valid. He is obv hit and miss. I saw the Out of Exile Cuban concert on tv and I thought he sounded bad. I saw Audioslave's first concert at 1st Ave in Minneapolis and he sounded great. In the end though, 99% of the times that I'm listening to him it's recorded and he sounds great. So I have no problem putting him high on the list.

Alobar -

"chris cornell sucks for turning audioslave into a shittyt band."

This would imply that at some point you considered them a good band. Cornell gets no credit for that? Are you talking about the last album (which I think sucks compared to the first two)? Why does Cornell get all the blame?

I saw them live 5 or 6 years ago and I gotta agree. I was never a fan of the Guess Who and only went to the show because someone offered me a free ticket. I was very pleasantly surprised at how tight they were- particularly how good Cummings sounded.

In the same vein I'll add John Fogherty. Classic rock voice.
