I would agree that it'd be more appealing to advertise 'FREE 20% bonus on all deposits' than rake-free. The kind of players I want to play probably don't even know what rake is, or if they do they figure it's only a dollar or two and makes no difference.

'Home of the Never-Ending Bonus' would be much better than 'Free 20% bonus on all deposits'.

The suggestion by many is not that they change the bonus structure. Just how they describe it in their marketing.

exactly market it as the more you play the more you earn, or something along those lines making wpex the site where you get paid to play

Dear WSEX GM,

Have you ever hear of 'advertising'? I suggest you try it sometime. It may make people outside of this forum aware of your site. Someday you may even have more than 7 or 8 people playing at the same time.

If WSEX can't afford to advertise, then I am all for the 90%RB, 10% advertising idea.

[/ QUOTE ]

Why be a jerk about it?
Especially when you're uniformed.

They advertise on these and other forums.
And I can't open hardly ANY poker magazine without seeing a big, full-page ad for NO RAKE poker at WPEX.
They've been in CardPlayer and Bluff (and probably All In and Poker Pro I'm guessing as well) in every issue I've seen since they started this.

They also arranged with CardPlayer for a nice long article about their new, innovative approach in the poker-room that included them getting on the cover.

If you're referring to 'television' advertising then you need to be aware that even before the legislation passed there wasn't a TV station in the country that would let them advertise 'rake free' poker on their real-money games.

Whether they can actually 'afford' to advertise more. Har har har. They are a pretty darn big sports-betting site.
I have no idea how much they make but I'm pretty sure they could afford to buy as much advertising as they want to for their site.

They are offering 100% rakeback for crying out loud.
And all you can think to do is be a total jerk about 'ever hear of advertising? I suggest you try it sometime'

In short - try to have a clue if you are going to criticize and please try to be a bit more civil when doing so.

The point I was making about advertising is that they only advertise to players who aldready know what rake-free means. So what if they advertise here or in Card Player magazine? They're just preaching to the choir.

I'm being a jrek about it because WSEX is offering an incredible deal to players and they can't seem to get their site to grow hardly at all. If party poker can charge all that rake and get 80,000 players why can't WSEX get even a fraction of that? Clearly someone is doing something wrong and it makes me angry. Is it okay with you if I get angry and post my frustrations? Sorry if I wasn't nice enough for you. Perhaps if I go down on WSEX GM and after I swallow, politely suggest that maybe his current plan isn't all it could be? Would that be nice enough for you?

Yes, I was kind of a jerk. I'm angry and I felt like saying so. I'm sorry if it offended you so much, but my post wasn't directed at you.

Yes, I'm aware that WSEX is a giant sportsbook, but that doesn't mean that they are going to use all that money to promote their loss leader.

You're right about me being uninformed: I don't know a thing about advertising. That's why I would hire an advertising firm to do the job for me. Maybe WSEX should, too. Or get a new one if they already have.

And before everyone rips me a new one for arguing with MicroBob, I just want to say that I have nothing but respect for him and think he is one of the most knowledgeable and intelligent posters on this forum. I was just defending my post, I'm not trying to bash Bob or anything and I look forward to reading his posts in the future (just not the ones directed at me ).

Remember, this law was attached to a legitimate port security bill by Senator Bill Frist of Tennessee. It's a crappy backdoor manuever and a terribly underhanded way of assuring that it would get passed. With the political climate the way it is; few in congress would dare to appear weak on terrorism or national security.

It will be up to those players in Tennessee to show strength for all of us by voting this guy out of office for pulling this kind of BS.

Frist is not running for reelection. He plans to run for the Republican nomination for President in 2008.

To hurt Frist, Start stumping for McCain now...oh, wait he's hostile to sports betting.

Maybe Mitt Romney...oh wait, he fought against Mass casinos to build up his cred with the far right base of the party.

I think that everyone that has posted here thinking a bonus is better than getting 100 percent of there rake returned are insane. I play $2-$4 limit holdem game on WSEX about 10 hours a week and have been getting over $100 A WEEK
returned in rake off of a $500 account. 20% bonus..... you have got to be kidding me. I am getting 20% a WEEK on my original deposit every 7 days. I own and use Poker Tracker and Poker Tracker Omaha. Before InterPoker bailed out I started out with a $100 and they gave a $100 bonus each month. After 9 months of playing when the site closed I had put in $900 and cleared $900 in bonuses. By then I was playing $100 buyin PLO and had $2400 in the account. AND I HAD PAID INTERPOKER OVER $3000 IN RAKE!! There is no comparison to no rake vs bonus. No rake wins by a landslide.
