It is possible that many of the offices will be closed given it is nearly 7pm here.
Key staff that remain will be either busy trying to monitor the progress, get a copy of the agreement, etc. Rarely will you get an answer significantly late, but still possible given we were made well aware of the lateness expected this evening. |

[ QUOTE ]
[censored]. The House is going to pass the port security bill. I don't know what's in there. [/ QUOTE ] Dude - you're one of the few folks in here w/a level head. If you start flipping out the whole thing's going to collapse. |

[ QUOTE ]
Senate will be in for the next 90 minutes at least. House is looking like it will probably have a late night as well, but unclear how late. [/ QUOTE ] The first rep. to speak after they came back from voting on the Homeland Security bill said they will be discussing the Port Security Bill around 9 and they will be voting on it around midnight. Those were only estimates though, he was trying to be as vague as possible. He (sry forgot his name) also said it will be the last bill discussed, that much he seemed sure of. |

it seems to me that if the house is going to pass the port security bill, the senate will almost certainly stay and vote on it as well. or could the house pass it but the senate just not get to it? do any of you folks who know something about congress have any opinions on this?

Republican Leaders Reach Port Security Conference Deal ...
"A major maritime security bill will head to the House floor tonight with a last-minute provision that would crack down on the $12 billion online gambling industry but without other controversial additions, such as court security measures and protections for phone companies that cooperate with government wiretapping, House Homeland Security Chairman King told CongressDaily today. King said the text of the conference report is done and will be brought to the House floor tonight for a vote. House and Senate Republican leaders were trying earlier today to attach last-minute measures to the bill. The only one that survived was from Senate Majority Leader Frist that would crack down on Internet gambling, King said." |

I just called my house rep, Rahm Emanual's office, and the staffer said that she would let him know when he asks for the policy report (?), but she said that she did believe they would be voting on it tonight. [censored].
I made it clear that he would lose my vote as well as my wife's and several friends if teh IG legislation passed. So point of this is to keep calling. |

I'd say that's some fairly awful news right there.
