I think you need to answer the question about what to expect from a "solid regular" at the $530's cause after hearing that I would put him on a preflop range of TT+.

EDIT - Add AK to that but after his flop-bet we're down to TT+ IMO.

5 pages and nobody noticed that Villain made 2 gaybets in a row?

So it's all just read-dependent on what the gaybets mean.

Monster (set of JJ or TT most likely)==fold.

Draw (blocking bet, less likely in my mind, KQ?)==shove.

Anything else (TPTK, QQ, etc, he just wants a cheap showdown, or a pure bluff)==shove.

So Degen's cards barely matter at all and his play is fine *if* the read is there which is why "solid regular" doesn't really help. In a vacuum I'm not real sure Villain is going to make two blocking bets in a row but who knows, I wasn't there.

I think the main question of this hand is can villain fold AJ here? Because your FE of a TP type hand is where your equity is going to come from on this hand.

[/ QUOTE ]

Only a fish would call w/ AJ right here.

[/ QUOTE ]

as would only a fish call PF with AJ

Also, can we not have 5 pages of debate about "standard" SNG strategy when Degen posts a 530 hand?

If you want to win at the 215s and esp.the 530s you can't always play like the 109s and below IMHO, there is more "real poker", it's like a cross between NL cash and STTs, ICM still applies but you also have to make plays like this from my experience there (back when I had $$).

What do you think you are pushing him off? QQ? 99?

[/ QUOTE ]

Not sure. I think his range is wide but his range for calling this push is pretty thin.

Doesn't this look like a strong line?

[/ QUOTE ]

What does he laydown that he plays like this?

[/ QUOTE ]

AJ, KJ, maybe QJ, AT, possibly QQ or even KK/AA

I put all that in his range with KK/AA being pretty unlikely but in there. I'd also add JTs and set's here...I think he only calls with the sets 100%, JTs 80% and QQ-AA he'd call probably 50-75% of the time.

[/ QUOTE ]

Solid regulars play AJ, KJ, QJ, AT, JT OOP facing a sizable raise?

That's what I though also but maybe that's why I'm only playing 22's.

On the flipside I think i read somewhere that $530s is about the level where people throw away their chart and start playing poker. Guess degen's suggested range isn't far off if the villain is very solid postflop.

In my opinion Degens arguments are reflecting that hes a NL-player. You dont see much of these fancymoves at the higher buyins from good players early in the tournament(thats my opinion as a frequent railbird not a player). These guy are so good because they know when to push and to call at later stages.

I hope we get more opinions about fancy moves at early levels at high stakes SNG.

edit: early in the tournament.
