Huge shortage means 1 per customer. Ppl will be lucky to get one.
Also most stores are pretty strict on what their employees can do. At the Best Buy I go to, employees were not allowed to hold onto a 360. If they wanted one they had to stand in line like the public, and get a number. The 2 guys next to me in line were BB employees...they were buying an extra one to ebay. |

the correct pricing to maximize ev will not be determinable until they are released and auctions go up; then supply/demand will determine how much people are paying for the systems and u can then figure out the best way to maximize ev

I would say yes, but better to sell. Seeing someone buy is not always a good indicator if they will be a good seller. At least that's what I look at when I buy.
However, you are not going to get to 1,000 between now and Nov, but if you can push it over 10 at least it might help.... Might be some restrictions on buy-it-now too, I think you need a certain level of feedback to run those auctions. |

Should I be trying to improve my ebay rating by buying and reselling random crap to get good reviews. Or is my 5 rating good enough to get buyers? Also, what is the correct way to price the ps3s to maxamize +EV? Start at 500 dollars. Or start it higher closer to 1000? Have a buy-it-now of 1800? [/ QUOTE ] Just start it at $1 with no reserve. You will probably maximize profit this way. |

u'll maximize it best by looking at the highest selling auctions and seeing what they look like vs the lowest selling ones
emulate those that work...the pics, the wording, the shipping terms, etc etc also, a higher rating will help |

I've run thousands of auctions with items that start at 99 cents. It's also a cheapier listing fee to start under a dollar. Won't matter much to you but if you do 1,000's and save 15 cents it adds up.. |

Is anyone else worried about the bubble bursting here? I have yet to meet anyone who is thinking about getting a PS3, but isn't thinking of selling it on eBay...have you? This isn't a secret to anyone, anywhere; the local news station have this story already written, they even have the stock footage ready.
But has the market for it really blown up proportionally? The console is more expensive already, so that's cutting in to your margin, and people aren't so much richer that the prices paid are going to be significantly higher then what the ps2/360 obtained, and the auction supply for those rich folks will be much higher to speread their bids on. I think it's going to be much, much, maybe even exponentially harder to get one on the first shipment, the profit will be less, and you might have to be in that first shipment to make any real profit at all. Throw in the bid fraud and the vacation time I'd have to take, and I'm thinking it's not worth it. Of course if they're going for 3k five months from now, I'm sure someone will be kind enough to bump this up to point out how stupid I am. =) |

[/ QUOTE ] There are ppl who will be keeping them, and parents who will be buying them for their kids for xmas. The general public is going to get in line the day before for this. [/ QUOTE ] It is going to be harder, thats why I plan out going to camp the day before rather than the night before. I told my buddy that he has to get off work early the day before so we can get into line by 4 or 5 pm...if the line has too many ppl at that point we will hit up a couple of the 24 hr Walmarts and get in line. And in order to take advamntage of the market you will have to get in on the first or second shipments of these. The problem is figuring out when the next wave ships is much tougher than figuring out the launch date. Btw I would venture to guess out of the 46 or so 360 units my BB sold on launch day, most of them were being kept or used as presents...only a few of them did the ppl plan on ebaying them. There are tons of Playstation fanboys out there, and they will be in line trying to get one. |

how many obsessive gamers do you think there are in the US. More than 400k? I certainly do.
There is no way supply is going to come close to meeting demand on launch day. And whats the worst case scenario? You don't sell it for enough on ebay and you can return it to the store for a full refund.... |
