[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] I wonder what Chan thinks of Gold welching on the deal. Even if Gold doesn't care what other players think, I would imagine in Chan's circles that stuff is pretty important. IE - they might look down on Chan for continuing to associate with Gold. I know I would. [/ QUOTE ] Chan's circles? What exactly are you implying? That because Chan is Chinese his entire base of family and friends all follow a single code of ethics passed down from generation to generation. [/ QUOTE ] I assumed that the reference was to Chan's peers on the poker circuit. How you got race or clans or whatever out of that is way too twisted or politically correct to believe. [/ QUOTE ] So why would your assumption mean anything more than my assumption? [/ QUOTE ] Because your assumption was based on nationality, while mine was based on rationality. |

That because Chan is Chinese his entire base of family and friends all follow a single code of ethics passed down from generation to generation. Chan and his "clan" have been here long enough (decades) and have been involved in the gambling industry long enough to know what goes on. Someone claiming that another guy owes him 6 million is not going to cause Gold to "lose face" with Chan or Chan to lose face with anyone else. So far all we have is the story of one guy. Maybe it's true and maybe it's not. Even if it's true we all know that when it comes to big money everything is negotiable. [/ QUOTE ] Jump to conclusions much? WTF did he say about Chan being Chinese? [/ QUOTE ] Obviously I was referring to his fish-fetish and the fish-fetish online community that I'm sure exists out there somewhere. |

Bump, any updates on how this tourney is progressing? [/ QUOTE ] I'm beginning to think its a hoax. Does Madsen have a blog, he was supposedly one of the last thirty players. Aside from nearly identical press releases to the one I quoted in the OP in some other online outlets I can find no other reference to this tournament and I can't even find a web page or other reference to the supposed casino that its occuring at. According to the online brochure someone linked above its at the "Game International" which I can't find. Some sources indicate its at "The Palms" in the Turks & Caicos islands, but no description of the Palms I've seen, including their website, mentiones a casino. If anybody else can find anything updates would be welcome. --Zetack |

No updates but the tournament does have a website. [/ QUOTE ] Yes, I saw that. However when I google Game International, I don't come up with any casinos. And the TCI Invitational doesn't produce much either. And that tourney website has no results, no updates, no lists of competitors, nothing. Its probably real, as I read an interview with Johnny Chan where he mentions it when I was trying to track it down, but its kind of puzzling that I can't find out anything about it or the location that its being held. As for the poster who asked, putting out a fake press release is pretty easy. --Zetack |
