[ QUOTE ] Is 15mph the general lowest over the speed limit most POs will pull you over for? [/ QUOTE ] I had a PO who was the head of traffic enforcement for a large department tell me this: 1. If it's just a regular PO then the general rule is 14 over the speed limit. This has to do with the type of radar they use and other mitigating factors. 2. If it's POs that specifically give traffic tickets then it can be as little as half of that. These are the guys with lasers and usually they are two motorcycle cops. I've personally received a ticket from these folks for 9 over. 3. If you are going over in a school zone, you are probably getting a ticket for as little as 5 over. Depends on the PO though they might just give you a warning. His advice was to never ever go over the speed limit in a school zone. [/ QUOTE ] All of this sounds right - like I said, traffic enforcement wasn't my thing. I bolded #3 because it is almost universally true. I don't know any police who won't give a ticket for 2 things - speeding in a school zone and not having a kid in a carseat that's legally required to be in one. |

Heh, yeah. So do you think I was correct in alerting officers? I mean, can't hurt anything right? [/ QUOTE ] No harm in calling as long as it is the NON-EMERGENCY number. Plus, the story sounded kind of shady, so it was probably a good idea. |

Thanks for taking the time. You seem like someone who truly wanted to work as prosecution, so could you tell me (a) what were you making approximately when you decided to pack it in, and (b) how much the pay would need to be approximately in order for you to stay? Bonus question: What did you study in college before joining the police force? Mickey Brausch [/ QUOTE ] (a) about 49K (b) about 65K (c) political science |

[ QUOTE ]
Have you ever been laid, or in a position to be laid (and turned it down) because of your job? In general, do you find women are turned on by the fact that you were a cop/da etc? [/ QUOTE ] Sorry, Degen, I missed this one. I have been with my wife since I was a sophomore in college, so I was never able to abuse my power in this capacity . I found that my DA friends were able to use their position for more of an advantage than my police friends. I'm not sure why. |

Did you ever do "detail?" - what is the general view on detail. And when in college an officer I talked to on campus said the campus policemen make over 100k/yr because of detail shifts, was he lying? This sounds high.
What would you have said to Denzel's character in Training Day when he was demeaning the traffic cop helping the lady out with a flat tire if you had one sentence? |

As a prosecutor, what percentage of your cases were drug cases?
Did you ever feel dirty or immoral about prosecuting someone for a possession charge? Did others in your department feel this way? |

[/ QUOTE ] Before I answer this, we need to be on the same page. By detail, you mean where police act as security, right? [ QUOTE ] What would you have said to Denzel's character in Training Day when he was demeaning the traffic cop helping the lady out with a flat tire if you had one sentence? [/ QUOTE ] Never saw it, but I get the gist of your question. If it doesn't take away much from protecting, there's no reason police shouldn't help in situations like this. Helps to keep a good relationship between citizens and police. |
