Its kind of obvious he will make some fake throws. If he is any decent at throwing he should be able to out play the racket guy by playing slow balls that only a great player can hit hard with topspin. Ie, keep the ball low until you can get towards the net. Then its over.

I don't think the NCAA can have any objection to this, considering the game they are playing is not actually tennis.

Isn't the thrower going to have to throw a tennis ball 250-500 times to win a 2-3 set match? Maybe more even if the strategy depends on unforced errors from the opponent. I don't think throwing the ball with any pace is an option.

I will gladly make this bet with anyone as me being the one with the racket. since i was top 200 in the world ATP, I figured no one would want me to play with the racket. that is why i am taking the throwing side. i repeat, anyone want to be the thrower i am more than ready.

But you don't need to be whipping fastballs for all of those throws. I do agree that if the raquest side can stretch the game out, the catcher doesn't stand a chance.

Don't tennis players regularly return shots that are much harder hit than Nick is going to be able to throw?

why does everyone think the guy catching is at such a disadvantage? A tennis court is big and you are allowed to pivot and fake throw, think about it people, you are gunna run that poor guy with the raquet to death. I cant hit a tennis ball for [censored], but I sure as hell could throw one pretty accurately. And with a glove?? fo get aboud it

Throwing a ball with spin wears out your arm as well. I would think 75% of the throws would have to be lobs. On the other hand, we aren't talking about protecting a pitching career.

First, try catching a tennis ball hit ~120Mph hit directly at you. Then try catching it 8-12 feet in either direction with about half a second to react. Then come back in here and restate.

I have a hard time seeing anyone with a solid serve and good tennis skill losing from racket end. Hard for me to tell once it gets to volley, it seems a fair amount more can be done from the catch side, but the serve is the bitch of the bunch.

You're losing a foot or two of range, that's why its a huge disadvantage.
