all,

I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet. I wouldn't be surprised if at least 100k of those chips came from players who were blinded out on 1A and 1B but were allowed to play on their scheduled starting day of 1C or 1D as well. I know I remember reading Minh Nguyen was blinded off on 1A, but I saw him playing on 1D. I assume he's not the only one.

OSU,
That has been mentioned and it doesn't hold much weight because most of the changes in chip counts happened way after those stacks were absorbed.

Noah,

Man, it's early. You can't expect me to read through the whole thread to figure that out, can you?

I did.

Anyway, it's really early, but this sounds like it can be a huge issue.

I kinda wish that it just died out because it'll be bad for poker if it turns out that there was a huge mistake or cheating going on, but obviously, that's very unfair to the people who played.

Cheating ?!?!? in a competition with 10 Million @ stake and 8800 different people playing.... Gee some of these people are dishonest... I'm stunned... FWIW the extra chips may have helped the winners but I doubt they helped the people that originally brought them in (yes I get the fact that the extras might have helped the cheaters bust people that didnt deserve to be busted, of course its kind of difficult to sneak in a stack of chips, most likely a couple of 25k chips /10k chips slipped in when the TD's start early color ups (nobody notices but have a huge impact...) but you have to survive to that point. But short of getting RFID chips in the chips there is no way to stop this.

But where did the freaking extra chips come from in the first place and who got them in there?

It's not like I can just pocket them from my own stack and then sneak them over to somebody else to put in their stack. That wouldn't lead to any extra chips in the count.

They had to come from the Rio somehow, right?

Probably already discussed in some other thread but I couldn't find it.

At the end, it looked like there were more than 90 million chips. But 8773*10,000 = 87,730,000.

Can anybody explain the discrepancy?

[/ QUOTE ]

I can explain it with a few examples

1000$ super satelites with 3000$ in WSOP chips
1000$ stud 8/ womens/ NL events with 1500$ in chips

as well as your standard lifting of chips from prelim events, i bet the counts on every one of the prelim events was off (and under), think about it. i even heard someone mention how much of a good idea it would be to register for these events (especially the super) and just take the chips to use for the ME

So what denomination chips were most frequently pocketed from prelim events?

A ton of $25 and $100 chips just seems silly (although maybe not).
Once you get deep enough in a $1500 prelim where you have $5k and $25k chips I would think you wouldn't want to part with them in that event.

Although maybe some short-stack guy who has gotten fairly deep pushes all-in and knows he is covered and is somehow able to palm one or two of the $5k chips from his stack since he knows he's about out of the tourney anyway.

Something like that seem plausible?

Still, for 2-3 million in extra chips this needed to happen several times.
