It's amusing to see Daniel fanboys assume that his legal opinion trumps Raymer's legal opinion. As for the "taking advantage of the catch-22" -- that's missing the point. Just because the WPT started the TV poker revolution, they're not entitled to monopolize the rights of all players who appear on its shows.

Greg, Im with you on just about everything. Your points are very valid and reasonable. However, I think you could of really elevated your stance if you would of left those childish comments out of the chat box, the ones about you being glad Daniel was knocked out of the main event. Leave the personal jabs out, thats what seperates the men from the boys.

What is the main point of the lawsuit ? To get the WPT to get rid of the 'using players images for any purpose they want' or to not allow them to lock up casinos like the Bellagio etc for big buyin TV tournaments ? Does it have anything to do with the [censored] final table structure as well ? All of the above and more ? Someone please fully explain to me .. thx ..

Yeah, they're suing the WPT because the blinds move up too fast.

the only reason I watched the WPT was so that I could get to see these players in action more often.

[/ QUOTE ]

I'd say you are in the vast minority; I think the huge majority of WPT viewers learned about these players for the first time watching WPT.

[ QUOTE ]
The WPT does gain something from their investment. They have a successful television show, and a range of moneymaking spinoffs.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe the WPT has yet to post a profitable year. The players are clearly the ones coming out way way ahead in the WPT-player relationship at the moment.

Greg is a human being, his error is small and not worthy of a thread. Daniel on the other hand is known for talking similarly about other players, yet few criticize him. Greg's conduct is only shocking to some because it comes from a man whose image is that of a class act, which is true, but we should afford him these small lapses of judgment - its hard to always be in the spotlight!

PS: I have the dubious honor of being designated a "table prick" by Greg, even thinking about the time he called me that makes me crack up because its perceived to be out of character for him.

It is my personal opinion, as a lawyer who studied antitrust law in Law School, that the WPT is violating the law.

[/ QUOTE ]

Wow! You took a class on antitrust in law school? No doubt that you are an anti-trust expert then. You've got TT fooled, but most people know that one class does not an expert make.

[ QUOTE ]

Much more importantly, it is the opinion of our attorneys, who are the preeminent sports antitrust lawyers in the world, that the WPT is violating the law.

[/ QUOTE ]

If the WPT were paying your lawyers do you think they might have a different opinion?

Jesus [censored] Christ. This is all about your personal gain. You 7 are the biggest names and you stand to benefit the most. Other players will not gain a fraction of what you stand to gain. That being said, I have no problem with a person pursuing a matter for their own personal enrichment. That's what makes the world go round. Just admit it and stop trying to act like poker's version of Santa Claus.

Oh, and if this lawsuit is for anything other than an injunction and the recoupment of attorney's fees, then your entire post above is nothing but hot air.

OK, here's a copy of the complaint:

1. This action is brought to enjoin, and to seek treble damages for, continuing violations of the federal and state antitrust laws ...

[/ QUOTE ]

It looks like you 7 personally stand to benefit greatly if treble damages (3X [censored] DAMAGES!) are awarded. I can't believe you tried to snow this whole board with your poker Santa Claus act.

Treble damages are commonly asked for, and rarely given. Its a negotiating chip, not necessarily the ultimate goal. In fact I doubt this case will ever see a courtroom, its generally the kind of negotiation that only takes place because a lawsuit was filed.
