Your first step is to go to the professor's office hours and bring the syllabus and explain the situation. Don't be demanding, but explain how it is completely valid that anyone could misinterpret it. If he refuses, then tell him you would like to go to the ombudsperson and resolve the issue.

I was VP Academic of my university in college and sat on a bunch of committees that dealt with these decisions all the time. You have a very clear case where the professor wrote something in the syllabus that could be construed as 2/3. Prof has to stick to the syllabus. Take it to the departmental head and then the Dean/Ombudsman.

I was VP Academic at my university, and everything here is quite correct - however the prof will probably cave, as he doesn't want to have to deal with the University Secretary and committees/etc.

the enjoyment i get out of reading threads like this is why i end up wasting so much time doing nothing, to me this is what reality tv shows should be about

if you could take some of the best threads like this on 2+2 and manipulate people into getting into similar situations on camera you would have literal entertainment gold, i really don't think there would be any need for any other tv shows ever

Completely agree with SAMIAM. I don't know where you are going, but if you are thinking of any sort of post university education (law school etc). Reccomendations are huge. I get into huge fights with teachers but I have gotten better and my grades have gotten better to.
