Have you guys been to KeyArena recently? It really [censored] sucks. There is crap for decent food, the seats are incredibly uncomfortable if you are taller than 5'6", you can't bring booze to your seats (which I think is a state law...clownshoes nanny state again for ya), and the whole thing feels dark and dingy. Go to a game at Key and then try Safeco or Qwest- they are MUCH MUCH nicer.

Agree- the key is ass. It's a problem not if you're tall, but also if you're umm... wide.

[ QUOTE ]
The Sonics leaving will be a huge loss on the local economy [/ QUOTE ] Statements like this, in my opinion, assume that entertainment money does not go elsewhere. Do you think that everyone who spent $500 a year on Sonics games is going to put $500 in their savings account instead? No, they are gonna buy Seahawks tickets, M's tickets, go to movies, go to restaurants, or buy other stuff, entertainment or otherwise. Not as easy to measure as the loss in revenue in certain Queen Anne restaurants, but I stand by the assertion that people continue to spend (as a percentage of their income) roughly the same amount on entertainment whether they have a Sonics team to support or not. And how much did the Sonics care about the local economy? They were fine with lower Queen Anne restaurants and bars feeding and getting drunk their customers for years, but then turned around and said give us $200 million so we can put food and drink venues inside the arena, so all that money would flow to them instead of all the local businesses. [ QUOTE ]
Almost every owner who bitches about operating at a lost ignores how much these teams gain value over time. [/ QUOTE ] And almost every fan who bitches about teams appreciating in value ignores the carrying cost on the debt and the significant opportunity costs involved for 9-figure investments. Never as good or as bad as it seems I guess is my point. |

Letting the Sonics walk will just prompt the city to spend a ton of money on a stadium to attract a new team or whatever.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Good riddance [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ]I don't understand how you can say this. [/ QUOTE ] Very simple. I just hit the 'quote' button and left that part in. I have no sympathy for pro sports teams that try to put upgrade/expansion costs on the taxpayers. I'm not for government subsidizing private business.(unless the taxpayers vote for it) See the Seattle Mariners for a prime example. Maybe the sonics can take them with? Go Huskies! b [/ QUOTE ] I tend to agree with you here. The Mariners stadium went to a vote and lost by ~1000 votes and we got the stadium rammed down our throats anyway. [/ QUOTE ] Should be noted that they voted the Mariners down twice . b |

[ QUOTE ] Imo, sports teams are just like private 'retail' stores. [/ QUOTE ] why do you say that? [/ QUOTE ] Because they, as a private business, are marketing and selling a product. b |
