I wonder why Shieky hasn't sat down. There has been an open seat for a while, and even Todd pointed it out to him during this show.

For the entire day he has been in the background. Just hanging out?

Also, wonder why Deeb is conspiciosuly absent this season? Other plans?

All in all, this is still the best poker show, bar none.

Esfandiari may be the real fish in this game.

Funny how losing with aces repeatedly can make someone look like a fish.

[/ QUOTE ]

Nah, that stuff happened long ago. I was referring to the past couple episodes.

Jennifer was kicking major assatation last night. She could use some more practice stacking her chips though

I've also had a kidney transplant (like Jen had) and some of the medications we have to take cause trembling hands.

really like how Jen Harmon changed gears. Shows me what a true pro she is.

[/ QUOTE ]

That looked like Jen Harmon last night. I've always heard about her unrelenting aggression in cash games. I think it was just a matter of her getting used to no limit. She said here during the first season she wasn't really comfortable playing no-limit. Last night she looked comfortable.

[/ QUOTE ]

I thought her 3-betting the 679 flop with QQ against Antonio was really impressive. Her 97s bluff against Antonio's QQ on the KJKx board was pretty reckless, in my opinion, but slightly better than Antonio's weak playing in that hand.

[/ QUOTE ]

I believe she was playing the player on that hand. Antonio had just busted and rebought for 100k and it looked to her like he was gun shy - especially after he asked for a ruling on whether he had to post.

Did Gabe Kaplan seriously just take a shot at Mike Sexton?

Gabe Kaplan??
No! He took a shot at himself.
GTFO.

Boy, Todd looked absolutely beat tired. Why continue playing when you can barely keep your eyes open. Don't you think his all-in mistake was a fatigue error?

Deeb may be in Lebanon ducking missiles that Elezra is dropping on him.

I don't remember this. Was this during the opening? My TiVo cut that off. What was said?

[/ QUOTE ]

I really don't remember exactly what was said now, but it was something to the effect of "those that aren't good enough at poker become commentators. i don't want to mention any names, but ... [and then goes off into a mike sexton impersonation]."

I Tivo'ed it, and just rewatched the beginning again just now.

Here is an exact transcript of the Sexton comment for those that are nerdy enough to care (like me):

Benza: The game has been going into the late hours of the night and the players have got to be getting tired. Is it fair to say that it is an advantage for the younger players now?

Kaplan: Well, yes, age can be a factor, but you have to understand the older players are aware of this, and most of them are very disciplined. Really we don't have that many older players on our show this season. Last season we did. And you cannot survive in poker unless you have discipline. Some older players who didn't have it have had to go on to other professions like professional poker announcers.

Benza: Anybody come to mind in general?

Kaplan: Mike Sexton is the only one I can think of! (in a bad Sexton impersonation replete with hand gestures)

+++++

The "I don't want to mention any names" line is from an older episode, not related to Sexton at all.

Let's be fair about this... they were speaking in the context that older players sometimes do not have the discipline necessary to play for long hours at a stretch as they were playing into the late hours of the night. They were stating that sometimes younger players can have an edge over older players because they're more accustomed to playing late at night.

Gabe: "Older players are aware of this, and most of them are very disciplined." "You cannot survive in poker unless you have discipline".

Gabe: "Some older players who didn't have discipline have had to go on to other professions like professional poker announcers" - a self-deprecating comment. AJ then said "Anybody come to mind?" Gabe: "Mike Sexton is the only one I can think of".

It was just as much a fun poke at Mike Sexton as it was Gabe poking fun at himself.

it makes me sad that benza & kaplan have as much to do with the show as they do. then to read what everyone says in this thread about it bums me out more. this show would be perfect if they just let it play without the stupid commentary. it's at least once a week i find them talking over something i would much rather be listening to from the table.

WTF do all you guys care what Kaplan says as a bad joke?
