Default How long does a typical Satellite take to play?

A buddy of mine is going to Vegas for a mini-honeymoon, was thinking of staking him for 2-3 satellites while he was there for a $1500 or $2500 NL event, curious as to how long it would take per satellite. Good to know how fast the structure is ahead of time so I can warn him.

I played three of them on July 1 and 2 and chopped two of them - one with three left and one with two left. From sitting down to the chop took about hour and a half or hour and three quarters.

Don't look for a game between 11:30 and 2:00 - most of the dealers are tied up with that day's main event. From 2:00 to about 4:30 you may have a bit of a wait to get a game, depending on how popular your choice is. After 4:30 or 5:00 it should be pretty much walk up and sit down.

The three I played were very soft. They played out like people here predicted - weak players get knocked out early, and by the time you're down to two or three it's probably experienced STT people who know the value of chopping rather than taking your chances on luck. Treat three players left as the bubble and use proper bubble pushbot strategy. I had ROI of %260 (admittedly very small sample size).

I played 8 yesterday ranging from $225 to $525, with each table having a range of very good to very bad players. I ran bad and only chopped one for a minor second place payout (i.e., take a lammer and play it out for first) and won a lasts longer. Ugh.

I think they are +++$EV but are high variance with the structure and all. If you can beat the Party $11s you can beat these, but with winner take all and a fast structure it is not hard at all to run bad, and it's not like 8-tabling online where it's no big deal. Think how easy it is to run an 8-table set and only cash one or even none. At home, no big deal. Here, it is a day of boring disappointment.

But obv it's also easy to score 2 or 3 in a row at weak tables with some decent cards and then you're having a great time.
