No, it is the norm to eat a variety of foods, and even to try something new every once in a while. It's one of the little things that keeps life interesting.

Since when is "Meat and potatoes" considered "picky?"

I for one agree with the OP that they were rude. Not for not serving meat, but for not having any mainstream food available.

Vegetables are as mainstream as it gets.

Now if they were serving only seaweed or tofu, you've got a point. But if they had a vegetable casserole or something, that's a perfectly good and ordinary meal. The hostess might as well "alert" them to the fact that she'll be wearing blue shoes that evening.

Do you seriously not even know what the food was? You didn't even try to find out?

[/ QUOTE ]

i also find this hard to believe. also, vegetables, even "disgusting" ones tend not to be inedible (like cow dick).

[/ QUOTE ]

How do you know cow dicks are inedible?

I suggest you go eat a few cow dicks before you go throwing your opinions around.

And, write up a trip report.

I'm certainly no vegetarian, but what the hell is wrong with our society when vegetables aren't considered "mainstream food?"

My GF and I eat meals without meat in them all the time, and it would probably never occur to us to include meat in a meal if we were having people over. I guess we just assume everyone over the age of 10 eats vegetables without it being a huge deal.

Warning: may contain nuts.

When you're invited to someone's home, they are generously offering you food and entertainment. If it's not your style, don't accept their next invitation.

And, to quote Herbivore Magazine, [b]"we put the F.U. in tofu."

Unfortunately you're wrong. This is a world in which fast food and microwave meals have actually come to be considered staples in a reasonable diet and even something you would feed your kids, not overpriced dogsh*t you'd be embarrassed and feel neglectful were you to feed it to your kids as anything other than a rare treat.

I'm not even exactly sure what that means, but it's funny.

Then again, I'm not the hardest guy on the planet to amuse.
