I think it will be interesting to see what happens with Wade just because he'll be playing with a completely different team within two years.

Shaq might have one more year in him. Zo is probably gone after this year. Riles may or may not coach one more year. Williams' knee won't make more than another year. Payton? Posey? These guys won't get another shot at this, and it'll be interesting to see how Wade does during and after a rebuild. I think that'll be the test for him.

I don't know who is the better player. I just want to comment on the fact that basketball experts, people who really know the game, always seem to jump to conclusions based on the last game they saw. I mean, they do complete one-eighties. I really love this about the NBA. [img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]

Kobe shoots better.

[/ QUOTE ]

Kobe 2005-2006: 48.2% 2pts 34.7% 3pts
Wade 2005-2006: 51.3% 2pts 17.1% 3pts

Kobe shoots a ton more 3s and is the focus of every defense he plays against, of course his overall shooting percentage will be lower. Wade is very efficient from about 18 ft in right now. As he expands his range he may become a better shooter than Kobe, but right now he's not.

[/ QUOTE ]

Effective FG% weighs the shooting percentage to account for the fact that a 3 is worth 50% more than a 2.

eFG% 2005-2006: Wade 49.9%, Kobe 49.1%

eFG% Career: Wade 48.8%, Kobe 48.2%

Wow do people really think LeBron + Shaq + refs would not have won the title this year?

[/ QUOTE ]

Are there really people who think McGrady + Shaq + Phil would not have equalled three titles?

Don't forget to subtract out McGrady's back.

Points Per Shot
Wade 1.44 - # 11 in the League
Kobe 1.30 - # 42 in the League

Kobe in 2003 WITH Shaq - 1.32 PPS
2002 with Shaq - 1.28
2001 with Shaq - 1.26

And take for granted, Shaq was MUCH better in LA in comparison to this year. Kobe has actually stayed as efficient without Shaq but still not as efficient as Wade is by pointer per shot.

What this basically shows though based on your EFG is that Wade is much more efficient at getting to the line per the number of shots he takes.

Can anyone still explain why Wade killed the Pistons this year and played significantly better versus the Pistons last year in comparison to the finals with Detroit against the Lakers that Kobe did 2 years earlier against essentially the same defensive unit.

Kobe's adjusted FG% was 38.9% that series while Wade's was 44% last year and 62.8% this year with an arguably slower Shaq with a "crappier team" as argued by some people on this thread.

I think with Shaq any number of these players probally could have won titles during the 2000-2003 seasons as a guard:

1. Kobe
2. Ray Allen
3. Tracy McGrady
4. Jason Kidd
5. AI
6. Vince

Fringe:

MJ - old
Payton - Old
Nash - no D

he took the worst team in the league, if you take him off the roster, and got them into the playoffs in the superior conference

[/ QUOTE ]

Getting into the playoffs should no longer be any reason to think a player helps his team. Getting into the playoffs is fairly easy in the NBA.

And if you took the best player off every team, the Lakers would most certainly not be left with the worst team.

Kobe may be the greatest #2 to ever play. Just like Scottie Pippen (another contender for best #2) Kobe's career will not be defined by his rings, but by the way he gave up on his team in a big spot.

Forget the rape, forget the rings, Kobe's career is currently defined by Game 7 this year. No coach or player will be able to see beyond that.

Kobe's problem is that he thinks he is a #1 and he is just not. Dwayne Wade has a far larger claim to his ring than Kobe has to any of the 3. Kobe was never named Finals MVP.
