If you ever wrestled you would want to have the singlet and not on some loose, baggy clothing. having something for them to grab onto is a huge disadvantage for you.
And I only worry my singlet during matches. I would always have on my warmups over them. You need to stay warm and obviously the singlet is not providing much warmth.

I have nothing to add except my dad and his friends used to be pretty decent wrestlers when they were growing up and I have certainly heard this a few times. "The guy was a prick... so I broke his arm!"

I am disappointed in OOT today. Virtually nobody pointing out the extremely blatant latent homosexuality in this "sport" that pretty much just consists of half-naked horny teenage boys groping each other's sweaty bodies? For shame.
