[ QUOTE ] If you want to play full time you must restrict your exercise to 3 days a week and moderate exercise. [/ QUOTE ] why? there are 24 hours a day and it's not THAT tough if you want to do it. Obviously you have to get into it gradually or your muscles will be really sore...but I think that saying you can't get in more than 3 days a week of exericse if you want to play full-time is a bit extreme. Goodguy_1 plays full-time and I'm pretty sure he is surfing and swimming, etc etc more than 3 days out of the week. And he's in his 40's. Some people with full-time jobs are able to find time to work out or go running almost every day. Full-time poker player should be no different. In fact, it should be easier due to your total schedule flexibility. [/ QUOTE ] I have to agree with Microbob here. Lefty, I really think that your statement and your reasoning are completely illogical. If your training makes you too sore to sit on your ass (WTF?), then modify your training. Don't come into the gym and blast out 12 sets of one muscle group right out of the gate. Starting lighter and doing some circuit training stuff is the answer. I think that using the excuse that there is not time is really pretty pathetic. I have a full time regular job, play as many hands as most full time pros (35K or so monthly), am raising 2 young kids, and still workout 45-60 minutes every day. I rarely skip. Making fitness part of your life and daily routine is the way to go. I look at it like brushing my teeth or bathing. It is just a daily necessity and not really optional. |

I don't know diddly about supplements and what-not...but my legs are sometimes insanely sore the day after soccer. And I mean Can-barely-walk sore. Since I'm going to be on 2 teams again this spring (and thus twice as many practices and games) and will also be running to try to build up some endurace to attempt to keep up with all these young guys I will probably look into that glutamine you recommended. Thanks for the tip. [/ QUOTE ] I don't know much about supplements either. I started using glutamine after reading the recommendations here. She is a personal trainer who seems to know her stuff. It was recommended by a few others as well. As for me, I was very sore for the first couple of weeks of working out, as expected (I hadn't been active in a long time). About 2 or 3 weeks in, I started using glutamine. Obviously my soreness was decreasing some just because of getting more used to being active, but the glutamine definitely had an effect too. I would definitely recommend looking into it, but of course, do your own research first. |

I have potentially the worse metabolism in human history and was able to lose 30lbs rather quickly to get back into tennis playing shape again so here is what I do...
First thing is the food, most important too. Try to eat 5 times a day, 2 meals, and 3 small snacks, that will keep the metabolism going. I have yogurt and nutri-grain bars laying around for this. Also, chips with salsa is very good for this. Fruits and try to eat seafood at least once a day (i love sushi so that works for me). Also, fastfood is not bad, i tend to get spicy chicken from taco bell (spicy food also keeps the metabolism going, ie sweating). And I also only drink water, have not drank soda for about a month recently, which is a damn long time. For excerise, I either run or lift everyday of the week, alternating which I do. I have started running everyday with lifting to get my abs back but that is not really necessary. You will never feel better then after running a couple miles, tons of energy later in the day which is perfect for playing poker if you do it early in the day. Another thing is supplements, I take 2. One is the fat burners from Fuel Tech which you can get at GNC. Another is a multivitamin which helps replace whatever you dont get during the day. Just use a lot of common sense too, nothing beats that. |

Phil Ivery runs three miles when he wakes up and then goes to the gym. He plays 50-90 hours of poker a week.
I think you can find time. |

And it's my hunch that he probably believes the exercise and running HELPS his poker.
gives him better endurance and possibly better concentration at the table. Former chess champion Bobby Fischer would include runnnig, swimming and tennis in his training regimen for a long and grueling match (that would take a few weeks typically...of REALLY hard concentration). He was (and still is) a whack-job in many other areas...but in this instance I believe he got it right. I believe there have been other studies indicating that exercise can help stimulate the brain and, essentially, make you smarter. So think about it that way if it helps motivate you. The exercise will actually be HELPFUL to your poker-playing. It really isn't that far-fetched. |

I went to the gym for a membership, but where are all the fat people? Everyone in there is already toned and muscular. Do you know how stupid I will look in there? [/ QUOTE ] No offense bud, but do you want to cut out the whiny excuse making for one second??? Who's fault is it that your conditioning has fallen this far??? Yours, no one else's. If those guys at the gym didn't suck it up at some point and begin working out they never would've gotten where they are now. I know from experience as someone who was always a little skinny guy that the big guys at the gym tend to want to help you more than anything. Plus my attitude has always been, "I go to the gym to get/stay in shape, not showcase what a physical marvel I am. (Which I'm not anyway)" and that's why the othe rpeopl eare there too. Last, do you think those guys got in that kind of shape because they head to the gym and concentrate on ridiuculing people who are in bad shape or because they go in and concentrate on their workouts? Come on man, you're an adult. This isn't high school, no one's going to give you a wedgie or a pink belly. Take responsibility for your own life and do what you know you need to do. Good luck, Matt |

[/ QUOTE ] Looks like you may have GYNO but that will correct a bit when you lose weight and become clearer upon weightloss. Chances are you may have a bit. I'd really recommend going to a bodybuilding forum(NOT bodybuilding.com as its full of a bunch of spastics with big ego's). Muscletalk.co.uk, musclezone.co.uk, johnstonefitness.com are all pretty good(specially the former two as you've got competiting bodybuilders). Anyhow good luck - I really wouldn't post on a Poker forum about weightloss/exercise. Just my 2cents. GOOOD LUCK! NOW LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FIX UP! |
