LCD's suck period. CRT is the ONLY way to fly. Refresh rates, etc are FAR superior.

Only if you are into blindness.

I stare into my monitor for hours every day - I much prefer the LCD for issues like eyestrain reduction and less radiation hitting me in the face.

5 bills for a monitor...Good god.

Ness, I just bought a brand new dell with a 19 inch flat screen for just under $700. Save yourself 2.5 buyins and go with 2 19's.

You'll get a LOT more screen real estate with 2 19"'s than one 21".

Ness: Look at www.gotapex.com. They have a system for $650 including a 19" lcd monitor (analog). You could add another monitor and be around $900 w/ tax.

(though you'd have to check the video card to make sure it has dual outputs)

Bought it directly through Dell

dell website

I went with the E310, you can click on "customize it" and upgrade different components.

Ness,

If you cannot afford 2 monitors now, buy one 21" monitor and get the other one when your bankroll permits. Do not settle for 2 19" monitors. I have one Dell 2001 and the overlap with 6 tables is very manageable.

Ness,

unless you actually like overlap, a single 20" (1600x1200) LCD is >>>>>>>> any number of 19" or 17" (1280x1024) LCDs.

If you only play Party, resize lets you fit 4+ tables on any monitor - 9 fit comfortably on a 2001FP.

Here are some screens to show the difference:
(click to view full size images)

19" LCD, no resize 4 tables (nasty overlap)

19" LCD, resized to fit - Party/Empire only

20" LCD, no resize - 4 tables, sweet - no overlap

20" LCD, resized to fit - can do 9 tables if you like

IMHO, 20" or larger flat panels are very much EV+ If you can't stretch to one and are considering a 19" or 17" LCD - downgrade other components just to get the monitor, it is the component you are very likely to use the most, after all.

Right about now you can probably pick up the old Dell 2001FP for much cheaper than the new 2007FP - this is a good thing to do, the new one is more expensive and allegedly not as good with colour gradients (noticable watching DVDs etc).

As others have said, any new computer should fine, so long as it has enough RAM (1GB is plenty) and can drive two monitors (Dual DVI video card).

One of the new dual-core CPUs will almost make sure it never lags, but may well take you over budget.

I hope this helps,

dave.

4 tables on 2 screens = 2 tables per screen = minimal overlap

SSNL,

Thanks for all the help.

It looks like I am going with a very basic dell (upgraded Ram and HD) and a couple of 2100FPs if I can find them.

I really appreciate all of the help.

Now I just have to find someone that will go on the internet and order all this stuff for me.

Beavens, if you come across any more good deals, send em on over. I estimate it will take me two weeks to follow through on this.
