Kevin Harlan is definately my favorite. It was so awesome when he just did local broadcasts for the T-Wolves but everyone knew it wasn't going to last...

[/ QUOTE ]

Ohh, he's a flamthrower from the outside!!! Used to love when he threw that one out.

I have the good fortune of being from Cleveland, home of the best radio basketball play-by-play man ever. This is not up for debate. His name is Joe Tait, and if you are not from Cleveland, you are missing out.

Kevin Harlan is abhorrent. Nothing like false enthusiasm.

Mike Patrick is classy, though a bit prone to hyperbole. He doesn't deserve the bashing some of you give.

Joe Morgan is literally incapable of understanding important components of the game he once dominated. Several years ago, with Dave Burba of the Indians leading the league in wins at the All-Star break, Morgan explained that Burba is "the best pitcher in the game because he just knows how to win." Morgan explained that he would pick Burba to start if he could have anyone, due to this awesome ability to just win.

Brilliant, of course. He didn't realize Burba had the highest run support in the league. I suppose if Burba had the lowest run support, he would just stop giving up 4.5 runs per nine, because he apparently knows how to do that kind of thing.

Is this quoted to prove he's horrible, contrived, and annoying? Or do you prefer contrived, canned catch phrases that are designed to highlight the announcer and not the sport he covers?

NBA - Marv is IMO the best out there right now. My fav "up and comer" is Mike Breen. He's been doing local Knick games for awhile, and is now doing some NBA on ESPN games.

No one has mentioned Bob Costas back in the Jordan Glory days. He was my fav back when the NBA was on NBC.

Hockey - Gary Thorn. Can't beat his call when a big goal is scored. No Rangers fans can forget... Mateau, Mateau, Mateau...

NCAA tourney - Gus Johnson. This guy is just [censored] excited all the time.

Anything - Brent Musburger (sp ?).

Michael Kay annoys the [censored] out of me. In fact their entire broadcast team annoys the [censored] out me.

I am a lifelong Yankee fan btw...

There is a cool play-by-play guy for the Sixers. Maybe a few more of you have heard him--he was doing one of the Nets-Pacers games on NBA TV in the first round. Marc Zumoff. He has a couple great signature lines:

"...and down it goes!" (a made three-pointer)

"...taking him down in the weight room" (physical play inside)

"they are on the see saw" (teams trading a one-point lead)

I like the way he announces. I can understand if you don't though.
