[ QUOTE ] You all have to remember that this match is a business decision. It is not for a title, it is strictly for promotion and to bring back older fans of the UFC. It is also a chance to showcase some of the biggest names from UFC in a sold out Staples Center. This is a promotional fight. Now I'm not saying Gracie took this match and plans to lose, but I think he is terribly outmatched at this point in his career. He has not beaten a top notch opponent in a long while and Hughes has faced some of the best MMA fighters in a time where MMA is bigger than it ever has been. UFC wins this fight no matter what, and Hughes' hand will be raised in the main event, most likely in the 1st round. I think White would like to see it go longer, but they do have a huge undercard so the length of the main event may not be so important. [/ QUOTE ] This is true. I still think its going to be interesting for serious fans, but obviously the huge loser in this charade is GSP. He has definitely had enough fights since his loss to Hughs for a rematch to be inorder. He really shouldn't have to wait this long. I assume its the next fight after Hughs/Gracie, but still. Personally, I think that the UFC has invested so much money into marketing Hughs as the champion, that they want him to win as many fights as they can get away with before they have to risk him losing the belt. [/ QUOTE ] GSP and BJ Penn are fighting soon with the winner taking on Hughes later this year. Advantage: Hughes. |

They already fought...Penn lost but GSP looked more beat up. Penn definitely did way more damage but GSP held on and Penn gassed in the 2nd. Sad fight coz I love Penn, he's an awesome fighter. Saw him fight one of the Gracies at Rumble on the Rock in Hawaii....although there was a huge fight in the crowd like 5 rows behind me so it was tough to pay attention.

Wearing a Gi was outlawed a few years ago when the UFC agreed to follow a standard set of rules to get approval from the Nevada Athletic Commission (and other ACs). I think the reason is that they needed to standardize the appropriate fight gear, similar to how there are standards in boxing.
It's doubtful Royce would wear the gi in this fight even if he could. He hasn't worn it his last couple fights and Hughes is definitely good enough on the ground that he could use it against Royce. Hughes wins by ground and pound. Also, GSP will beat Hughes when they fight again. |

[ QUOTE ] The only way Royce wins is if he is allowed to wear his gi and use it to choke Hughes out. God Gracie is a little bitch. [/ QUOTE ] Speaking of bitches...you sound like one. [/ QUOTE ] I wither under your imaginative onslaught. |
