Flat calling preflop and check raising the flop might be a better line than 4 betting

i don't know many villains where i would like this line. when you call 3 bets cold preflop it sends out some major flags, and theyll be checking behind very often. i think you have to 4bet/call here.

Yeah the majority of the time I'm 4 betting preflop, since I don't cold call 3 bets with a wide range at all. But some players it has merit against, particularly players I don't have history with and might get away from QQ/JJ if I 4 bet but might feel committed to calling my shove on a rag flop, etc.

I think a 4-bet shove has much more merit than a smaller 4-bet.

A 4-bet shove looks a lot LESS scary to a better player than a practical minraise there

Maybe in this exact spot, but in general I disagree. Especially when it comes to a typical situation where I open on the button, and a tag 3 bets from the blinds. 4 bet shoving as a bluff is pretty gross. And a small 4 bet is way more likely to be a bluff than a 4 bet shove.

ok i folded KK preflop, ill never do it again. we all happy now?

It's not that you folded KK preflop, it's more how you did it.

If you think he isn't shoving over your 4 bet with less than KK, then your 4bet makes no sense. The fact of the matter is that people will shove AK/QQ there all the time making your fold a big, big mistake. Do you honestly think he plays AK any differently?

People need to realize that AA vs KK is just a cooler 100bbs deep between two relatively aggressive tags. Flat calling preflop and check raising the flop might be a better line than 4 betting, it's player dependant. But just don't fold, period.

[/ QUOTE ]

I never planned on folding to the shove after I 4 bet. I was kind of on auto pilot and saw I was OOP so I 4 bet. Once I saw his shove and stopped and thought for a moment instead of instacalling like I always do:

He RR an UTG raise, very strong
I cold 4 bet, extremely strong as no one in SSNL does this without a monster
He shoves over that, BG is an aggressive player but not retarded. I didnt think he would do that with AK or QQ, and since I had 2 of the kings that left AA.

His small 3 bet actually save me cause if he makes it like 24 then Im making it like 80 and Im obviously never folding to a shove there, but since I still had a a good amount behind I figured I could fold.

This is the first time Ive folded KK preflop and probably one of the last.
Thats my story and Im stickin with it.

whatever you were right and despite what everyone says I see no problem dumpin kk preflop if you think your beat. I don't do it often/ever really. But there is times when I'm pretty sure I'm beat when I wish I did. And of those times if I did I'd definetly be +EV. NH I say.
