Thinking about playing around with some sports betting. Any of you do this with intent to turn profit?

yeah....it's much harder post UIGEA (without Pinnacle). The large number of successful guys are arbitragers.
anyway, with it being MLB season, the best thing is just to follow 2p2's Crockpot on runlines and moneylines. The guy is ridiculously good and should have his own syndicate. Here's his blog.

You're going to need some free cash as you pretty much have to have accounts at 5 different sites minimum in order to line shop for the best prices.

Sports betting is a really hard gig. I think Sirio11 had a good post on how hard it is in a recent blog. FYI--My ROI is about 0.6% over a shitton of betting. I work at it like a full-time job during NCAA football and the bball tourney time. I probably work more than full-time because I love it. During college football season, I'm insane.

im trying to let you know that if you keep trying to dick me around ill surely donk off a buy in or two on general principle.

[/ QUOTE ]

DLM, I think you make more plays at me than probably any other player and I can't figure out why. There is so much dead money out there between the donks and the weak-tighties.

I personally don't think it's a good idea for any player to put himself in position where he's trying to attack (at the table) the other good players for profit. First, your edge is going to be small. Second, your SD is going to go through the roof. Maybe an exception to this rule would be my feud with betgo a while back. And the reason that that is an exception is because his VPIP was so I that inevitably I had to play pots with him.

[/ QUOTE ]

I've had the same comment to DLM. I do think he plays back at other decent players too much, especially considering most are on autopilot anyway.
However, I can see why he does it, particularly against me. If someone doesn't stand-up, I'll just steal and steal and steal and steal and....

Perhaps, DLM is right. It is interesting. I've meant to AIM chat with him for months now . Life is so busy sometimes. DLM frustrates me like no other, but I think he is exposing himself.

Do it? Yes.
Profit? No.
Problem? Prehaps.

I'm probably down 3-5k lifetime.

That's actually one of the best things about living in korea -- no temptation to bet on sports.

But I think the best way to make money is by shopping lines and finding good hedging oppourunities. I just don't have the patience for that though.

In that case maybe I won't.

Wouldn't be worth my time and having money spread across many different books to line shop is kinda a PITA.

I was intrigued by what a poster is doing in the sports betting forum: he has some kinda system he is putting together by assigning offense ratings and pitching/defense ratings for baseball teams. He is adjusting for home-field advantage and is line shopping and waiting on some lines that are likely to move in his favor. It's really interesting to me.

every successful sportsbettor does that stuff at a minimum

most of us have unwieldy, chaotic spreadsheets

the key is in the weightings, etc as to whether it works

seriously, just follow crockpot...he's a genius
