I feel like I should be really excited having just woke up and read the last 30 or so replies in here.

but i'm not.

KG-Pierce-Allen is appealing, but I mean..

It seems like 2-3 years of an above-average team, and then we fall back to shambles.

I can't really picture us being a championship contender with this big 3 (and Doc )

[/ QUOTE ]

Okay but if you dont make the deal what happens? You're big three then for the next 4 years is Jefferson/Pierce/Allen. How far into the playoffs does that take you? So then in 4 years when Pierce and Allen are washed up you still have Jefferson but so what.

Can you build a team around Al Jefferson 4 years from now? I think he'll be good but not that good.

for like the second time in history i side with toro.

you make this deal, hope for a little fortune in the next year or two and maybe catch a title. you also garner interest from fans like me who would watch them if they make this deal, but if they dont, i probably will watch like 3 games next year.

And mentioning that doc is not a good coach really shouldn't factor in whether the trade is good or not. I mean are we fans supposed to just throw our hands up and say since doc sucks it doesn't matter anyway?

I agree with your points Toro, but what it comes down to is:

Why do we have to accept the fact that there's nothing we can do to really turn around the franchise? Why do we have settle for Option A which sort of sucks or Option B which really sucks.

What is it going to take to get to the point where we have the pieces and means to have a really promising base and outlook?
Just seems like we're stuck in mediocrity and will be for a while because we are too stubborn to re-build, instead insisting on building around Pierce (which could have been great had we not done it so poorly).

Well, it's not like they didn't try to get Oden or Durant.

The answer to that is there really is no way in the NBA to set yourself up like the Red Sox have done in baseball and the Patriots in Football. Basically, you have to get lucky and win the lottery in a year when there is actually a franchise player coming out. The Celts have proven they suck at this.

The only other way is too scoop one up when one is availbable like right now. This is the Celts only shot at being relevant in the near future and by near I mean 4 years.

When they got Allen they basically made themselves a 40 win team that would be drafting in the 14 to 16 slot. They will be doomed to mediocrity for a long time drafting there.

More:

http://www.thebostonchannel.com/spor...amp;psp=sports

"The teams "ran into a few things that need clarification" in the players' contracts, but the official said that would not keep the Celtics from acquiring Garnett, although there could be a change in the players ticketed for the Timberwolves.

There was a "50-50" chance that a conference call announcing the trade would be held Monday, the official said."

cbs sportsline says its done, gomes not in the deal

BOSTON -- Kevin Garnett is leaving Minnesota after the Boston Celtics agreed to acquire the All-Star forward in a multiplayer trade with the Timberwolves, a Celtics official told the Associated Press on Monday.

Among the players who could be headed to Minnesota are forward Al Jefferson, guard Sebastian Telfair, swingman Gerald Green and center Theo Ratliff, said the official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because the deal had not been completed.

The official also said the Timberwolves would get at least one draft choice.
