Standard 5x5 Yahoo H2H league

I have been offered Albert Pujols/Josh Willingham for Carlos Lee/Magglio Ordonez

Probably don't "need" this trade, as my first basemen are D. Lee, Adrian Gonzalez, Nick Swisher, and Chris Duncan. My other OFs are Swisher, Teahen (he'll get eligibility soon), Duncan, Markakis, and Dave Roberts.

[/ QUOTE ]

You are being offered way too much value not to accept this.

[/ QUOTE ]
I agree. It's even better that you have depth at that position, since the 4 people you start can go from:
1) D Lee, C Lee, Teahan, Duncan/Markakis/Swisher/Ordonez in last 2 spots
2) D Lee, Pujols, Teahan, Duncan/Markakis/Swisher in last 2 spots
You have many extra OF/1B, and I would try to work a trade to get value for A. Gonzalez, maybe upgrading at one of your MI.

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, I got Utley at 2b, so no upgrade there, and Orlando Cabrera at SS. I only have Wagner for a closer (Gagne on the DL) and my SPs are injury-prone (Halladay, Schilling, Sabathia). Who could I target for SPs/RPs in exchange for Gonzalez though?

I am in a 10 team competitive keeper league. Should I take the offer of me getting Baldelli and Hamels for Delmon Young? I already have Santana, Halliday, and Carpenter as my top starters.

Now that the season is getting ready to start, a general question: how often do you guys sit a superior player due to bad matchups / bad splits in favor of his backup? General thoughts on lineup tweaking?

A specific opening day question. Giambi (vs. Kazmir) at 1B. Start him anyway or play Helms (Smoltz)? Is there a good site for quickly looking up a player's career numbers vs. a certain pitcher?

Thanks

Your Mom: Basically, what happened is a bunch of guys blew all their money early, and realizing this, I sorta laid back after I got a few of the big names I wanted so I could get medium-good players super-cheap.

Sounds like a good plan. Hill in a keeper league for 4 bucks is just nuts.

1. i use www.baseball-reference.com (click on the player than click on split stats and click on vs pitcher for those stats) they have things like pither, park, day/night games, pre/post all star breaks, months etc. (anything you can think of)

other good site are yahoo.com (i like their depth chart and game log, very easy to use)
mlb.com is okay but a lot of the info overlaps with basbeball refernece which is superior.

i sometimes adjust for how well someone does vs someone, but usually in regards to pitchers not batters.

giambi only has 5 A vs him 1 h 1 walk 1 so, personally i dont care about only 5 ab.

helms only has 4 AB vs smoltz with 3 SO no hits or walks, why would you start helms?

what do you think about when you have both starting pitchers for a game? Is it smart to play both of them since you'll have a really good chance for a Win or should you just evaluate each one seperately?

10 team league start 9 hitters, 2 sp, 2 rp, 3 p. categories are 7x5 with the 2 extra hitting cats being bb and k's. my question is how high should i move up bonds since he kills the 2 additional categories we have? i really like him in this league, but dont want to take him too early. draft is today, so any feedback is appreciated.

is CBS Sportsline the best site for running a league? We've noticed a few problems with the site:

(1) you can't put guys on the DL who are on the DL in real life (mb this will get better once the season starts?)
(2) DL salaries are counted against our salary cap even when we move guys to the DL
(3) CBS allows you to makes trades that are illegal (puts us over the cap). Does this mean we just won't accumulate points or stats until we make the roster legal?

any help?

Finally had my yearly H2H draft with my friends last night. 14 teams, standard Yahoo 5x5 format. C, 1B, 2B, 3B, SS, OF, OF, OF, UT, 4 SP, 3 RP, 9 benches. So you compete in 10 categories each week, and get a w-l record for the week based on the results. For those who aren't familiar with the format.

This is the league I mentioned in the Pujols thread where he went #6 overall and I had the 7th pick. Arg. I'll just post my guys by round, but remember 14 teams, so you can sort of approximate what number pick each round was.

This is tl;dr, but oh well.

1. Ryan Howard, 1B - First 6 picks were Reyes, Santana, Arod, Utley, Soriano, Pujols. I considered Crawford and Ortiz here. Wasn't thinking about Wright because I planned on waiting for someone to slip at 3B.

2. Matt Holliday, OF, Col - #22 overall. Sizemore was a consideration but he was gone.

3. Jimmy Rollins, SS, Phi - Was a little surprised he made it to me, 3rd year in a row I've had him, I'm a fan.

4. Jake Peavy, SP, SD - Normally I like to go with hitters, but about 50 picks in this was hard to pass up.

5. Jermaine Dye, OF, Chi - Wasn't thrilled about this, but he was the highest ranked guy left on my projections.

6. Ben Sheets, SP, Mil - Ugh. Struggled big time with this pick. There just weren't any great values left on the board. Closers were flying off the board, so I should have perhaps considered F. Cordero here, but couldn't pass on this about 75 picks in.

7. Scott Rolen, 3B, Stl - My team name two years ago when I won the league was Rolen to the title, so I had to go for him again. I don't need him to have a huge year, but I think 25 HR, 95 RBI is doable. FWIW Alex Gordon was still on the board.

8. Ian Kinsler, 2B, Tex - Maybe a little bit of a reach? Roberts, Cano, and Kendrick were gone.

9. Jose Valverde, RP, Ari - I wanted to get at least one closer, and will have to target closers on the waiver wire. Meh.

10. Alex Gordon, 3B, KC - About 130 picks or so into the draft, this felt right. I just couldn't pass him up, he's capable of putting up Ryan Zimmerman numbers from last year right? Not bad for my utility spot.

11. Chris Young, OF, Ari - Liked the "gamble" for my 3rd OF here. Seemed like good value.

12. Kelvim Escobar, SP, LAA - I know he'll probably have a DL trip at some point, but in a weekly H2H league like this format, a guy with good ratios who doesn't get shelled too often is pretty good.

13. Michael Barrett, C, Chi - Took him over Ianetta, who was about the only other catcher of value left on the board.

14. Javier Vazquez, SP, ChiW - Liked him as a 4th starter, although I had a couple of guys still ranked ahead of him...

15. Scott Olsen, SP, Fla - Which included this guy. I feel like I have 5 solid K guys so far. Might have made a tactical error here - after the pick I realized that I forgot that Adam Wainwright is an RP in Yahoo, and since I missed out on closers I probably should have snagged him. He went before my next pick.

16. Justin Duscherer, RP, Oak - Setup men were going fast, Broxton, Gonzalez, Soriano, Otsuka, Zumaya, Shields, were long gone at this point.

17. Corey Hart, OF, Mil - Trusting PECOTA here.

18. Edgar Renteria, SS, Atl - Value/trade bait, which is valuable in a 14 team league.

19. Orlando Hudson, 2B, Ari - Same.

20. Scott Linebrink, RP, SD - Somehow he had slipped a bit, so at least I have some good K RPs.

21. Vicente Padilla, SP, Tex

22. Brian Giles, OF, SD - How the mighty have fallen.

23. Kevin Youkilis, 1B, 3B, OF - nice position eligibility pick.

24. Pat Neshek, RP, Min - Already dropped him and picked up Braden Looper, as a flier. Being able to start 5 SP's by slotting one into an RP spot is valuable (hence the reason I was mad I forgot about Wainwright)

25. Jason Jennings, SP, Hou

Thoughts? I was pretty happy with how it turned out overall. I'll just have to be on top of the closer situations.

Who is going to close in Tampa BTW??
