BT: I did not say that you didn't care about the business interests of 2+2, just that you don't seem to have a strong understanding of how this type of business generally works/evolves.

gild: None of that is actually required. This exact situation has been discussed at length in many large forums/content sites/blog sites, etc. Anyone who has been involved in building advertising-driven sites focused on specific subject areas has dealt with this issue. Speaking to a number of owners/administrators of sites like that is the best option in evaluating a decision like this.

ED: I was just pulling stuff out of my ass, I don't actually know how advertising-sites work but I assume there is some kind of process to this instead of arbitrarily deciding one day "hmm, let's change something that works and piss off 70% of 2+2". Speaking to owners/administrators is definitely something in the vein of making a rational, cost-benefit analysis which is what I was trying to make happen in the first place.

I for one got tired long ago of posting reviews in OOT to see em sink (yada yada Kingpin etc etc) and said nothing, just cut back the reviewing severely. I posit that a ton of people cut back or don't bother because of the flushing effect

[/ QUOTE ]

Well, this is 2+2...what does this amount to, like 8 guys?

[/ QUOTE ]

Hmm, I'm thinking of taking the under on this one.

[/ QUOTE ]

Actually I think there are probably lots of people like that. OOT is just not a particularly good place to put something like a review of a movie or whatever that isn't completely current, especially among really young dudes. It's not a natural fit.

El Diablo,
Your constant harping on "the best business interests of 2+2" comes off as disingenuous at best. You said yourself that you perferred OOT when it was a smaller forum with a tight-nit group. I have a hard time believing that your opposition to an A&E forum has anything to do with the fear that somehow this web site's advertising revenue will drop if it is added.

Mat Sklansky: I'm undecided about the whole thing, yes. We have two weeks and i shall be following the debate closely

gildwulf: If Mat is just going to decide it arbitrarily anyways, then why bother asking us in the first place?

dude, just stop talking if you want to do the anti-split side a favor.

lots of the early responses in this thread were crap. then the splitters started winning. after that, the anti-splitters started winning. now it looks like the anti-splitters are going to blow their lead by diluting the thread with arguments about nothing.

This whole bizarre thread is like a drunk guy trying to mack on a sober chick who's not into him. DB, bluffTHIS! and a couple of others = drunk guy, everyone else = sober chick. They just keep forcing their agenda, apparently without a shred of self-awareness, and everyone else (most notably ElD) keeps cutting them off at every pass. I don't know whether to laugh or cry.

can you not read, or is mat a liar? either way, just stop talking if you want to do the anti-split side a favor.

Reread the rest of the post, AG. I was referring to after the split, and I was asking how it would be decided to go back to the way it is.

If Mat is going to decide whether or not to return things to the way they are after the split, then fine ignore my comment. But if he's going to base his post-split decision on public opinion then it appears wildly inconsistent not to base his pre-split decision on public opinion.
