[ QUOTE ]
You cashed big, and I went nuts. From these, all our current fortunes flow. [/ QUOTE ] I can promise you that 1)I was making a steady decent living before I cashed big, or even before I was playing poker, which seems to be a problem for you, and 2)What I went through, what almost cost me my life, was far, far, worse than anything you've ever dealt with or will have to deal with. |

Anacardo and other 'smart' but lazy people, I'd be interested in what you think of this article: How Not to Talk to Your Kids J |

I dont like most poetry but...
Miniver Cheevy, child of scorn, Grew lean while he assailed the seasons He wept that he was ever born, And he had reasons. Miniver loved the days of old When swords were bright and steeds were prancing; The vision of a warrior bold Would send him dancing. Miniver sighed for what was not, And dreamed, and rested from his labors; He dreamed of Thebes and Camelot, And Priam's neighbors. Miniver mourned the ripe renown That made so many a name so fragrant; He mourned Romance, now on the town, And Art, a vagrant. Miniver loved the Medici, Albeit he had never seen one; He would have sinned incessantly Could he have been one. Miniver cursed the commonplace And eyed a khaki suit with loathing: He missed the medieval grace Of iron clothing. Miniver scorned the gold he sought, But sore annoyed was he without it; Miniver thought, and thought, and thought, And thought about it. Miniver Cheevy, born too late, Scratched his head and kept on thinking; Miniver coughed, and called it fate, And kept on drinking. -- Edwin Arlington Robinson Anacardo, You're the only one holding you back dude. The world is filled with people with fewer advantages than you who make a go of being successful in any sense (monetary, life satisfaction, life goals, etc.). Also with regards to you being intelligent........ in my experience the most intelligent guys I've met have never had to make that claim they can simply rest on all they have accomplished. Additionally, I think your bankroll/life mistakes count heavily against your functional capacity especially your refusal to learn from them and accept advice. With respect to your depression/personal issues I and other posters can speak from personal experience and state that you are the only one who can work toward putting that in order (sometimes by seeking professional help); or you can keep using it as something of an excuse to prevent you from doing things that are too hard or distasteful. In the time you spent on this thread trying to showcase your verbal fencing skillz you could have done quite a lot to move on with your life. Making fun of the people in this thread who offer you advice and trying to belittle them (especially when they try to offer you some bit of compassion and understanding) is probably the smallest thing you could do. Best of luck in the future; your threads are always entertaining. |

[ QUOTE ]
I've met all those people you're talking about, in many walks of life, and I crush them. [/ QUOTE ] Wow. Okay, you know what, you're right. Fine, you crush everybody. That must be why you are a genius who can't make ends meet and the rest of us are suckers who not only make a living but enjoy it as well. I mean... [censored] this. I will leave you to continue bemoaning your fate and making no effort to alter it. |

Cardo,
It would behoove you to not interpret people trying to help you as "preaching from above" |

[/ QUOTE ] That's weird; I would have assumed one of your goals was "learn how to function in the everyday world without having to shed my 'delusional-protagonist' attitude." It's just as well; I'm sick of offering useful, experiential advice to people whose egos won't let them hear it. edit: Did you ever think that maybe it's BECAUSE I have a very similar attitude and background to yours and have managed to do all right for myself that my advice might be useful? And you're REJECTING it for that reason? Doesn't sound smart to me. |

I think pretty much anyone who isn't an egomaniacal failure has the right to "preach at you from above."

I think pretty much anyone who isn't an egomaniacal failure has the right to "preach at you from above." [/ QUOTE ] I don't think anybody has the right to do that to anybody. Much more importantly, it's not particularly practical. However, it can be unfairly miscategorized. Knowing something doesn't mean one is lording it. |
