Just calling brought 3 more along for the ride. Wasn't sure if they'd stick around facing 2 bets (although I guess the way they've played it so far whats 2 more bets?!)

Just calling = 3 BB + at least one or more on the river.

I figure I raise, other 3 guys fold, Button gets cautious and I get 1 BB out of the raise call and one on the river bet.

Raise = probably only 2 BB maybe 3 BB.

once you check, the call is fine, but my point was that you need to bet the turn and try to trap all those suckas for 2+ bets on the turn.

So life is good. Moved up to .5/1 at UB, very happy with my game, winning at a sustainable rate, handling the variance with a smile. In this state of euphoria, I decide to try some NL. Let's see, I was killing .25/.50 limit, I'll try that but at NL. How ****in' hard can it be? This week the tables will be full of donkfishmorons who have been watching ESPN - I'll clean up!

Does anyone live near western Pennsylvania who can stop by, pull my head out of my ass, and then smack me with a 2x4 for a few days?

edit: just noticed that this is post # 69 for me. Somehow appropriate, as NL blows and I suck

Did you lose like 4 all in's? 200 BB in 200 hands?

Of course not. This was several tables/sessions. And I bought in for 25BB, rebuys @12.5. So it was probably more like 8-10 all-in's I lost. And, yes, it was -200BB in 208 hands.

Get your $ in with the best hand my ass.

Default Taking a shot...

I'm trying to clear that huge sign up bonus at Martin's Poker, but there's only 300 people on-line now. So I decide to sit in for a 1/2 PL Soko game. I know Soko is just like 5 card stud but with 4 straights and 4 flushes counting as hands, but I've never actually played it.

I buy in for the minimum (20), and get a major bad beat when I go all-in on 4th street with a pair of jacks and some moron calls me with nothing but a 3 flush. Sure enough, he rivers the 4th club for his winning Soko. Grrrr. I'm angry and tilting, so I rebuy for a full 50, hoping to make my money back.

I've played a few non-descript hands when this comes up:

Players:
BadBeatGiver (EUR 88,94 in seat 1)
Hero (EUR 42,70 in seat 4)
RANDOM GUY (EUR 199,50 in seat 5)
Big Stack (EUR 261,30 in seat 7)

All ante

BadBeatGiver was dealt: ?? - 4s
Hero was dealt: Ad - Kh
RANDOM GUY was dealt: ?? - Tc
Big Stack was dealt: ?? - Ah

Big Stack Bet (2,00)
BadBeatGiver Call (2,00)
Hero Raise (7,50)
RANDOM GUY Fold
Big Stack Call (5,50)
BadBeatGiver Call (5,50)

BadBeatGiver was dealt: ?? - 4s - 2h
Hero was dealt: Ad - Kh - 6d
Big Stack was dealt: ?? - Ah - Th

Big Stack Bet (24,50)
BadBeatGiver Fold
Hero All-In (34,70)
Big Stack Call (10,20)

Hero was dealt: Ad - Kh - 6d - 8d
Big Stack was dealt: ?? - Ah - Th - Jh
Hero was dealt: Ad - Kh - 6d - 8d - Qh
Big Stack was dealt: ?? - Ah - Th - Jh - 7d

Hero shows: Ad - Kh - 6d - 8d - Qh (high card ace)
Big Stack didn't show: Ks - Ah - Th - Jh - 7d (high card ace)

Hero wins: EUR 91,90 (with high card ace)
Rake: EUR 2,00

Ka-ching! Hero has made his $20 and then some. I’ll quit after a few more hands with a modest profit, right? 3 hands later:

Thank you mister BigStack! Up over $100 in just a few minutes. I actually did quit a few hands later this time. I couldn’t tell you how fast my heart was beating those two times I was all-in, especially that second one, where all I could do was wait for my opponent to flip over his hole card and see if he had me beat.

I really don’t think I’m cut out for PL/NL Poker. Or maybe I’m just not cut out for playing for $100 and $200 pots with A high and 66. Back to the slow and steady pace of the micro limits for me.
