I know "I Love New York: Season 2" is having open casting calls across the nation. Can you handle Miss New York?

Cardo,
It's not offensive to me in the least. But if I were you, instead of whining and complaining on an online forum, I'd be figuring out how to make the money I needed in ways that involved fencing tournaments or sweet new essay collections. |

[ QUOTE ]
All, I agree that you are largely right about anacardo. However, I think you guys are really zooming in on his bad points here and just really nailing him to a cross on them. Sure everyone has bad attitudes, and they tend to stick out to us a lot more than the good ones. I like anacardo, and I think he comes off pretty immature in this thread. But these attacks against him aren't what this thread is for, and they have run their course. I suggest we try to head this thread into a more positive direction, and if you can't do that maybe try not posting in it at all. [/ QUOTE ] As I said earlier, I think one of the main problems in Cardo's employment outlook (and probably personal life as well) is that he insulates himself with ideas, many of which are about himself, and many of which don't jive with this reality. Because he was the smartest kid growing up, and he's articulate, he thinks he's a genius. He seems to then extend that reasoning to say that any avenue of life that doesn't recognize, appreciate, or nurture his genius, is not worth pursuing. But it is entirely possible that said genius is merely in Cardo's head, and he's afraid to find out that being the smartest kid in school in Tyler, Texas, is not the same thing as being actually smart. So he doesn't extend himself in any avenue that might challenge his perceptions of himself-- even when it comes down to finding a job, something as essential as making the money he needs to live, he seems to reject any suggestion that doesn't cater to his sensibilities. So my advice to him is the same as always: Get out of your own head, accept that some people may understand some things better than you, even if you don't like the way they present their ideas, and listen to them. [censored], maybe even smoke some pot-- it may or may not be the right thing for you, but at least it'll force a temporary change in your perspective. |

[ QUOTE ] Cardo, In the spirit of einbert's post, what jobs have you applied for so far? [/ QUOTE ] [/ QUOTE ] Wow, you guys are champing at the bit. I've applied to all those tutoring links I've been sent, plus the branch of Kraft / General Foods that my mother worked for decades ago; she still knows some people in the Atlanta office who can probably get me in the door for some lame-ish office / warehouse stuff if none of the tutoring gigs pan out. 'T0ne talks like he might have something worth looking into if he'd return his effing messages, WTF. I'd really like to tutor. Never before have I seen a job that made me say - If I were them, I'd really, really want to hire me. Yes, Diablo, I am well well aware that there are many, many people out there who are more talented than me at essentially everything. |

From these, all our current fortunes flow. |

Cardo, "fundamentally, you and people like you want people to lick your boot a little and listen to some [censored] as the price of pedagogy" Couldn't be further from the truth. Most of my best discussions/dialogues on 2+2 are with people who quite vehemently and aggressively disagree with me and are obviously quite intelligent about what they are saying. [/ QUOTE ] You're welcome! |

[ QUOTE ]
Why is this attitude personally offensive to you? [/ QUOTE ] The attitude isn't what's offending people. It's the fact that you ask for advice to make you less broke, and then when people try to offer it you turn it into a discussion about how you shouldn't have to want for those things. Well, you know what, that's fine. You don't have to want for them. There are people who live like this and enjoy themselves very much. You like fencing, so get a job at Nellya scrubbing anything they'll let you if you can practice for free as much as you want. Get back into practicing and see if you can start a beginners class since there's so little saber stuff out there. Or maybe get a job at Borders where your customer interaction will involve pointing people to the search computers or non-fiction section when you're not reading the latest 4000 page tome on an ancient civilization. Either way, none of this really matters. It would be much more beneficial if you really understood that failing at one thing or another does nothing to impact your worth as a person. So what if you can't dance, that isn't going to make anyone dislike you any more. You know I'm not here to preach to you, and that I have (at least had) a pretty decent handle on everything. Please just think about it. |
