Broken record, man. [/ QUOTE ] quite right. I'm just repeating myself now, and I think the arguments I've made are reasonably clear and solid, so I'll shove off now. Pip pip and nighty night, all. |

db,
"I think the arguments I've made are reasonably clear and solid" You have made arguments that describe why you think the A&E forum would be a good, successful forum, perhaps with better A&E discussion than currently takes place in OOT. You have not shown evidence of people wanting to discuss the reviews you make about movies that few people have shown any interest in discussing. You have definitely not made any counter arguments to my simple explanations of why this would quite likely result in a significant reduction in traffic to this site. I suspect you do not have any experience on the business side of high volume content/discussion sites, is that correct? Your arguments all center around what you, a specific profile of user whose interests do not seem to coincide with the core demographics of this site, would like to see in a site. That's a reasonable position for you to take, but unlikely to be one that's in the best business interests of 2+2. |

I'm still undecided on this matter, but as an aside when you talk about sites with traction, how imporatant is the page view ranking?: http://rankings.big-boards.com/?sort=pageviews Seven in this category seems very strong in an overall sense, but I'm not sure.

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] -- El D. Okay, simply put, I don't think things will change that much in OOT. I really don't see it as degradation, I see it as enhancement (of OOT AND 2+2) And I do think a lot of OOTers would actually like it (yeah I know this is a lame-ish posit, as hardly any have piped up here: from the way this thread seems to be going, it feels like me and a couple of others vs the rest), and I'm sure a lot of non-OOTers would (which we agree on, I think). [/ QUOTE ] 2 out of every 3 forum posters disagree [/ QUOTE ] wow, as it stands, 30% of OOTers agree. So I was right, a lot of OOTers would actually like it. cool. [/ QUOTE ] No, actually DB, because the link is also connected to the zoo. So this is an adequate representation of twoplustwo. [/ QUOTE ] So 30% of 2+2 want a separate entertainment forum. cool. [/ QUOTE ] a huge majority think a split would be a bad idea. 70% is a lot. |

Mat,
Are you undecided about just trying it out and going back if it doesn't work? Do you really think El D's arguments have merit and that so many OOT readers will be bummed out that they would just leave 2+2 forever and not even give you a chance to undo the split? And don't you think that those members of 2+2 who don't read everyday like most of us in this thread might then give the new forum some play when they don't even bother with OOT now because the front page would never show many if any A&E threads when a less frequent poster/reader stops by? |

Mat,
The problem with that ranking: "Only boards that have included one of big-boards trackers are listed here." |

7? we rock [/ QUOTE ] Only boards that have included one of big-boards trackers are listed here. somethingawful (not using a big-board tracker) has 4600 registered members signed on right now. two plus two has 900. there are bigger forums than us out there. for advertisers, page impressions are what matter. and more specifically to themselves, the click-through percentages on their ads. i can't speak for diablo, but when he talks about traction, i would think he would be referring to momentum in terms of culture, posts, and user signups. i now get the impression that if a split doesn't occur and this was all a thought exercise, the place will end up being better because of the conversation we're having here. this thread has really improved since this morning. |
