[ QUOTE ] As a general principle, do you really believe in saving "just one life" regardless of inconvenience? [/ QUOTE ] Maybe I was hoping for too much when I assumed that most Americans would accept some paperwork and a small waiting period for the sake of making it more difficult for criminals to acquire one. Keep in mind that these are the very criminals you claim to be defending yourself against. [/ QUOTE ] This is already common practice. |

Awesome job dodging that one... [/ QUOTE ] Awesome job posting one-sentence remarks that makes it difficult to understand what you're really saying (you have several). |

[ QUOTE ]
I find this reasoning to be extremely pessimistic - that a background check and perhaps a 3 day waiting period will kill 3 people for ever 1 life it saves? [/ QUOTE ] I just threw out a number. Truth is no one knows. [ QUOTE ] I'm sure you will disagree with me here, but I think that any firearm sold any civilian is more likely to be used for bad than for good. [/ QUOTE ] There are 200 million firearms in the United States. This report (pretty old; 1990's) says that there are 44 million gun owners. There are several orders of magnitude fewer crimes committed with firearms than there are firearm owners. So your opinion has no basis in fact. Standard for the anti-gun crowd. |

[/ QUOTE ] Did you expect something else? I would think that the vast majority of guns are never used for anything but target practice. Must there really be 44 million crimes a year committed with firearms before you consider that guns are bad? |

What's hard to understand? You dodged the question. John asked you a question and you completely dodged it. Nothing else. [/ QUOTE ] I already answered it when I made the original statement, he's just asking me to confirm it. Yes, I really think so. That said, I expect someone to attack me with some extreme case of inconvenience to save lives - such as wearing full bio-suits at all time to prevent the spread of disease. There is some limitation to what you can expect from people, obviously. I accept inconvenience to save lives every day: I stop at red lights, I accept traffic stops, I accept tedious security checks at the airport, to name a few. |

There is some limitation to what you can expect from people, obviously. [/ QUOTE ] OK, now we're getting somewhere. Now, how do you define for others where that limitation comes in? Are you for seatbelt laws for instance? What about drug laws? [ QUOTE ] I accept inconvenience to save lives every day: I stop at red lights, I accept traffic stops [/ QUOTE ] That's nice that your willing to accept inconviences for others, but that doesn't mean that those others should accept inconviences for you. [ QUOTE ] I accept tedious security checks at the airport, to name a few. [/ QUOTE ] Is the current government mandated security at the airport really acceptable to you, why or why not? |
